OK, this is for Maelin and Kibbie especially but of course all others are welcome too.

Go here and click on "Museum" (second from left on manu bar) and take the virtual tour!

http://www.rembrandthuis.nl/cms_pages/index_main.html

It's the house (now a museum) Rembrandt really lived and worked in
If your knowledgeable about his painting you might eve recognise parts of it

Mind, there's a popup for each room, so you might want to tell your browser to allow it.

@Hans,{{HUG}}} This was marvelous to see. I have always wanted to see
what Rembrant's house really looked like, but I had no idea that it
could still be around, until you told me recently. I should have known better.
The Dutch people do seem to truely honor their past, especially
their many great artist.
I was very taken with finally being able to see Rembrant's magnificent studio/atelier room where he painted all those magnificently beautiful pieces of art. It's too bad that someone, in the years after him... sanded the floors all clean...now there aren't any paint stains left on the floor to see.
I love his bed...it is such a huge piece..and the beds all have the shorter leg area that was the fashion of that part of the world. Is the odd looking chair on the front end of his bed, what they would have used in those days for the convience/toliet facilities? I never would have thought that the rooms would be so huge, or with so many window...but then again he was and is known as the Greatest Master of light.
Thank you my dear friend{{{KIS}}} for find this and putting up the link for me and everyone to enjoy. I can hardly wait to see it for myself...to put my hand where once his might have also been.....sigh...faint!!!

If you mean the chair at the head of the bed in the "Sael", no that's a lion head chair, a medieval design. I actually have one like it in my living room which belongs to the oak desk in my computer room. Both are late 19th century antique Belgian woodcutting work.

Yes I know about those styles of chairs and yes one in the *Sael* is the one that I am talking about. Except ......that particular chair doesn't look like it has a bottom seat part...but an odd dip/hole in the middle...and it looked like the chamber pot would fit right in that dip/hole. Sooooo I was wondering if that was an early version of a toliet ?

The bed is magnificent...and I take it that his clothes went in the cabinets on either side of the bed? I was amazed to find that the rooms were so big...but there wasn't anymore furniture in the rooms. Thank you again for the lovely virtual adventure...{{{HUG}}}

:haha: I won't tell, Maw. My little brother has been 8 this week. ugh. Everything is boring to him. I'm so appalled. :looks for the fellis juice: I think I need a double.
Has anyone been to the British Library? I had the chance to visit London and the library turned into my favorite attraction. It's so fabulous! :sigh: I want to visit again.

Hey, the wind is howling outside today. I am going to brew up a fresh pot of klah. Maybe some biscotti (I am in love with these). Come join me. The fire is warm and the chairs are comfortable. All that shopping is almost over and I am sure we all could use a little break.

I know she is under a lot of stess, but there are times when I just NEED to complain a little. She realy is a good kid. I realy would miss her if she stayed gone more than a day or two.

@P'ter: Yes! Well, I only had a chance to walk through the foyer. But, it looks the same. (-: I tried to get to the rest of it, but got really sidetracked in the special exhibit part. I think it was on the left side if you walk up the stairs. hmmm...I think that's right.

What amused me was "The King's Library" were the books are shelved with the spines outermost so that passers-by can be overawed!

I was having a cultural couple of days, Oxford University library on Friday; the refurbed St Pancras Station, British Library and the refurbed Festival Hall on Saturday morning and a play the the National Theatre in the afternoon.

Oh, and we managed to visit all four of the Monopoly Stations: Kings Cross, Fenchurch St, Euston and St Panc's.

Geesh. No, that sounds like a brilliant day P'ter! lol. But, I'm just remembering the stations in London. I think the underground system works really well but you really need to know where you are..haha..unlike me of course. I nearly got trampled a few times. Amazing though, I wanted to spend days in the museums and libraries there.

I did, as a kid. On Saturdays, once I was twelve, Mum used to let me go off on my own with a packed lunch. I knew all the South Ken museums: Science, Natural History, Geology, Vic & Al, Imperial War Museum, and one a littleway away from them the Commonwealth.

Later I added the USIS library and museum at the American Embassy.

When a tourist in London I always rather go by bus (cheaper too) and see things than by subway. The subway is only nice if you want to get where you need to be fast(er) outside the rush hours.

Good to know how to get around in London...I had thought that the buses would be the best way...especially if you are wanting to see anything of the city. I really loved the tour bus in Copenhagen...we got to see so much more of the interesting parts of the city that way....special thanks again to Marjon the very best of MoM tour guides!!!

Ah, things are sort of back to normal. Company is gone and the gatherings are over for now. Maybe I can spend some more time here again. I kind of miss the folks around here. I don't go back to work until the 7th, so maybe it would be a good time to read a book or two. Anyone in the kitchen for some klah?

I just got back from visiting family down South. It was a little warmer there. My mom loves fixing tea daily so that was quite enjoyable.

@P'ter: wow! My mom and I took off from the rest of our group at the time of our visit to explore. I was overwhelmed (and not just by The King's Library- you know, I don't doubt it at all that they would do such a thing as placing the spines outward like that.) Must take all day to do that sort of work. teehee. I feel like I only saw an itty bitty part of London though. I knew a family that spent the day getting out to Wimbledon by the subway system. I loved the Abbey, British Museum, and Greenwich. I have a picture taken of me on the meridian. Very interesting! I would have loved to have gotten a bus or a taxi though. That would have been an experience. (-:

Gwina: start saving up for the next time. There are some great tours done on open top busses.

Maw, glad to have company, sorry about your pipes. We had teens the other night and forgot to do our pipes. Luckily, for some reason, they did not freeze this time. They are set to go now and the weather is warming up. Oh well, will just leave them bundled up for the rest of the year.

Now where are those cookies I made. They would be good right about now.

Just got a new delivery of Benden organised. It's to be delivered by dragon. That's more expensive but you don't have to wait a week for the sediment to settle.
