It is the last so far. However, I think there are plenty of loose ends to be tied up. Unfortunately, given Anne's age and frail state of health, we may never see a final book. I'd love to see the Farmer home planet, and maybe they'd be willing to help some of the planets devastated by the Eosi, etc.

Anne's usual answer to the question of more books in any non-Pern series, are that inspiration has to strike for a plotline, and that fans and her publisher clamor for Pern mostly.

Perhaps her publisher is making so much noise about Pern that Anne can't hear the fans asking for anything else?

I think that's very likely P'ter, especially with all the business going on about the movie rights and all. Personally I think the Freedom stories would be easier and cheaper than Pern for movies and/or TV and they might possibly reach a broader audience base. But that's just my

I believe its pretty open ended, but was also rushed. It took me nine months to find Ransom. OK Trade agreement and then rebuild Earth. I had to recount to make sure I was not shafted 200 pages. Maybe I just hyped myself up too much. It was one of my favorite series.

I think most of us felt that one was sort of a rush job. I vaguely remember reading an Anne quote somewhere where she said someone was trying to keep her from rambling too much. I got the feeling that if the story had been worked out a bit more it would have made at least two books with enough still open for yet another. Unfortunately, we're not likely to see any more unless she appoints a successor for this series.

To tell the truth I never had the urge to read this series. Then one day i saw there was the game of it, and I had read all the other Anne McCaffrey books, so I decided, why not. Little did I know what I was getting into. It turned out to be such a great series. And yes I agree with you all that it was a bit rushed. I finished wanting more, and so now I must await it or dream up my own.

Phoenix, if you do (dream up your own, that is), be sure to share it with us in the Exhibit Hall There's loads of fanfic on Pern, but I for one haven't seen much about Anne's other fascinating worlds

I loved this series from the start, but Ransom was disapointing. It left me wanting; it was not as satified as the other three. What about the Farmers, will we ever learn anything more about them? & the Eois are still out there, will they cause more trouble for others, or maybe try & take revenge? Too man questions are left at the end of Ransom. I hope it's not the last one. The war against the Eois is over, but what about the post war rebuild? I get the feeling the Farmers should be involved; constructive critizium, like, yes you could do that, but there are other ways to do it with no species harm.

Well said Pete
Pern was not my favorite series yet it goes on. I believe its peoples fascination with dragons, Alchemy and Academe. (sword and sorcery, dare I say) Or maybe people subconciously wish for simplicity? Are we the cause of our own ignorance?
We have lost far too much of our knowledge through book burning and religous crusades! My way or the highway... any oppose me must die! We have had our share of dictators... I mean presidents in the USA. Close minded and egomanical the lot of em! OOOpse now I've done it... I have descented. Fine! come get me Napolelean!(complex) and bring your lil dog too!

If there is another book I want the rock squat issue straightened out! That really bugs me how in the first 3 books they are fur bearing animals and then in Ransom they are avians! Interesting creatures who can change species at will? If there's a continuity person reading over her books this was a huge error. Pern is one thing, it was started as a short story and has expanded way beyond what Anne expected so errors will happen, tho the publishers should use Cheryl and Hans' sites to help! Well, so was this series but there wasn't as much in Thorns of Barevi for this sort of error to happen. I was just shocked to read this glaring error. It bugs me each time I re-read the series. (sorry for ranting but I just got done with the series so it's a freshly opened wound.)

Only thing I could think of is that they're furry avians, but that still begs the question of why that wasn't mentioned in the first three books!
So your rant's deserved, Becky.

In the first 3 books they reminded me of a large chinchillia. You know, I never noticed that error. Maybe because I wanted to know more about the Farmers. Gee, and what were those "natural" formations trying to keep in or out? Or did the Farmers see a future need for a place to put aggressive beings?

Okay - reread the Freedom series recently and the hanging questions bugged me so much that I have started my own fifth novel (Actually it started as a short story, went to a novella and is now heading towards a novel)

The fifth book also left me a little um frstrated too as it did not seem to tie up the ends but almost catapaulted you into a new phase in the Catteni/human relationship.

The fourth book, you mean.

Good luck with writing the novel! Even if you're unlikely to get it published anywhere except as a fan fic for free...

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I'm a big fan of Anne's work but I'll post more about that in the appropriate section.

Sure hope there will be a next book in the Freedom Series. I'd love to see what it'll be like to have the Catini on earth for the "Bizarre of the Century" (Not sure I spelled that right).

If you remember how panicked the "Watch Dog" got when the "Botany Boys" showed up on earth. Imagine how they'd be when the Catini show up.

Welcome to the MoM forum, MagicJax!

We really don't expect another Freedom book, as Anne isn't writing too much these days and concentrates on Pern as that's what her publisher clamors for.

Beta reading just means pretty much the same as proofreading. Say WritersALot writes a story, then gives it to her friend Reader, who points out that she made some mistakes and gives her opinion. Reader is WritesALot's beta reader.

Hello! I'm new here too.....my first post . I am in the middle of reading the freedom books for the first time (Hey, I'm young enough to have just discovered McCaffrey) and I love them just as much if not more than the Pern world (which I discovered about a year ago). In fact I find it easier to relate to than Pern.

Since I still haven't reached the last book, I cannot say whether I am happy with it or not, but I do know that I am sad that I am already half way through it in only 3 weeks!

That being said, I'll post again once I've finished the last half!

So I just finished the third installment in the Freedom Saga, and I felt that the book wrapped up the plot line fairly well. I am still going to read the last, Freedom's Ransom, but I'm not sure why a fourth was added unless it's to start a whole new conflict. I guess I'll find out when I read the fourth!

Loo-cows: A beast found to have 6 legs and gives no milk. Hope that helps. Also a post rank on here at MoM too.

Yeah, it's a puzzlement that the third book seems to wrap up the series, and then the fourth leaves plots hanging again.

I got to enjoyed the Pern set only because my Godfather gave me the books as a gift. now they are so dogearred that I had to replace them all. I picked up my 1st book of the Freedom set and now have the whole set (so far) and I hope to be able to add to this set.

I like the Fredoom series well enough to have wanted the series to continue so as to tie up loose ends. For all the talk of Anne being distracted by the call for more Pern stories, there sure were too many Acorna books for my taste.
