As I said earlier, snow and ice pictures are always tricky but these look nice. An advantage is that, if you're lucky, you have beautiful blue skies.

Of these two sets I especially like the first and the two last ones of the second set but that's personal and not based on quality or other technical reasons.

I love the ones where green is showing through the ice.

Hans, I like the second set best myself, but I wanted to show what the bigger picture looks like too!

The holly leaves were encased in about an inch of ice... I shook the branch a little and it rattled, sounded kind of like those wooden windchimes.

I prefer the second set too (although I like the last picture of the first set - the buried cars tell a story). I think the close up pictures have a stronger subject. I like the contrast between the roundness of the holly leaves and the spikiness of the pine tree in those last pictures.

Basically I put up the first set to "set the scene".

Here are some more photos; these are from the next day. There had been fog overnight, which allowed a really amazing hoarfrost to form on top of all the ice that was already there.

I second that. The ice crystals look fantastic.

Yeah - that last one looks like a cave formation of some kind!

I hadn't been planning to take any more pictures of the ice, but then I went outside and saw THAT!

These pictures are so cool!! The last batch you posted looks other-worldly in nature.

Makes me wonder how those green leaves will fair after having such a heavy coat of ice on them.

Do you have this every winter or is it rare?

Well, the holly and the pine are evergreens... some of them did fall off from the weight of the ice. A lot of sweet gum balls fell, too (that's what that spiky thing was). And many, many bits of twigs broke off - so possibly a lot of buds; but since it was still winter, hopefully the buds that remain will be all right.
