So did I, including the wind-up one. Some Saturday mornings I even used to play on a wind-up telephone board at Dad's office. We even had wind-up gramaphones. You could play the records backwards (who says d.j's are new?)

I can remember my mom making me practice dialling 911 on the rotary phone in the bedroom (the only inside door with a lock, so that would be where to go if there was an intruder) while she held down the button so it didn't actually dial. The wall phone in the basement is still a rotary phone.

Well you're only a spring chicken, Hans and P'ter, compared to my dad. He would have been 89 this year if he was still alive so he would have dealt with all kinds of telephones when he was alive. My mum can't be bothered using a mobile, she figures a landline is good enough for her - she's retired now from working as a journo.

My dad wasn't far behind - he would have been 92 this year (November).

We lost him in 1995 and he never really got the hang of telephones.

He'd no need for them as friends and family lived very close and until 1977 we didn't have one at home. Prior to that he would only ever use the public phoneboxes (usually for emergencies) which were at the end of the street.

Hmm, mine would have been 93 this May. But that's not fair Peter because you are actually so ancient yourself that you easily could be MY father

Mine would be an even 100 This Aug. It sure doesn't seem like he has been gone for as long as he has.
