Default Dragonsong - The Musical

'ello guys!

As you may or may not be aware, I'm directing the stage adaptation of 'Dragonsong' this term. I decided to create a thread in order to keep you guys updated as to my progress.

I've been working hard to try and get the most important props done...the Firelizards! After /so/ much stressing, the first one is finally completed.

Say hello to Uncle!

It's in 3 parts, Wings, Body and Head. It's been such a very long slog...and things will need to be tweaked for the others, but it's finally done!

The rear wing is fixed, with the one in the foreground able to be manipulated by the puppeteer.

What do you all think?

This looks great...Is it from the original plans for Dragonsong? I'm glad to hear that everything is coming along so well on this project for you. I hope it goes well when you finally get it on stage...*good Luck* or
*break a leg*...!!

I know how you feel about getting it all fixed up. Fond memories of finding a pattern for a dragon, cutting it out and having to hand-sew the lot because my sewing machine was broken, it's fixed now, for Aussiecon's masquerade. Everyone thought it was great though and I was pretty pleased with myself. So I appreciate all the hard yakka that you put into getting "Uncle" up for us. Hope the audience appreciate it too Well done Sara!

Are you going to make any of them left handed? To give yourself more variation in staging?

I am indeed. I know it's not entirely 'canon', but Menolly is having five fire lizards instead of nine, with three right-handed puppets and two left-handed ones.

We also had to tweak the script a little yesterday. It still says the same things, but in a slightly different manner to make it a little better for a more grown-up audience. I've got to admit I was impressed by just how good the script actually was when I got it. Pern isn't exactly an easy thing to stage and explain.

I'm not entirely sure what the rights cover...but if we are allowed to film it, I promise to put a clip or two up for you all. I know for a fact that there will be a lot of pictures anyway!

And there may be a few items signed by the cast up for grabs if anyone would be interested.

Great to hear that! And why should you stop grinning? You put a show on a wonderful book together, you now have a cast for it, dates for the show and everything else is going great! Grin all you like! You deserve it!

Rehearsals are going really well, and boy can my cast sing! I'm really, really proud of their energy and general attainment at the moment, and with only a month to go, I just hope we keep making progress in leaps and bounds.

I also wanted to share the poster design with you all. Tell me what you think!

I haven't. I'm going to wait until I get can a poster, program and a signed copy of the script to send to Anne (with hopefully q full-cast photograph in it).

There's a chance that I might be able to get some signed scripts for people, as well as programs and posters and suchlike...but I'll have to see and post nearer to the time if that's actually an option.

I don't suppose anyone on MoM is planning to come and see it? (No idea where most Englanders are situated. xD ).

I would have gladly come and see it if I could, Sara. I wouldn't mind paying the entrance fee for a poster and signed program (thus creating myself as a virtual attendee) but unfortunately I can't be among the spectators for real... and trust me, I would love to be!

Idea: If I pay you the fee, sombody else could go free...

Unless Sarah's too embarassed to have us wierdos there?

I know I'm one. Please put me down? I know I can't make it, across the pond and all, but I've enjoy collection when I can signed things, I'm working on trying to keep together my stuff for scrap booking, not an easy thing when you are getting ready to move. I've got some stuff together.
