Default First Sunday in July: Dordrecht Bookmarket!

It's almost tradition. Me reporting on the yearly bookmarket in Dordrecht. This year there were no less than 989 stalls! Most of the books are in Dutch of course, but there are many stalls selling English language paperbacks which are popular in my country.

I came back with less books each year, first because I buy a lot on the internet, second because my collections grows and third because I am honestly trying to cut down on the number of books in our house and are selling off some of them.

The city centre of the ancient city of Dordrecht (oldest city in Holland) is made traffic free for this event and is the perfect place and the weather was gorgeous!

I bought several books by Katherine Kerr (thank you Anneli!): Darkspell, A Time of Exile, A Time of Omen, A Time of War, A Time of Justice and The Bristling Wood. A book by Sharon Penman (a historical novel author I like) titled Here Be Dragons Nebula Award Stories Three (with Weyrs Search in it), for further sale because I already have this paperback and one Terry Pratchett paperback. Interesting news is that the first Dutch Discworld Covention will be held in my home town of Rotterdam on 28 and 29 May 2011! I will keep you informed on this.

I also bought a garden book, for myself this time, not for my wife, on rock gardens and rock garden plants.

Here are some photos to give you an impression of this bookmarket event:

Looks a great place for bookaholics Hans. Maybe one of these days

Actually I've started to read Katharine Kerr too - looking for A Time of Justice next. May get to finish that part of the saga before Oz - then I can start on some Aussie authors (have some books not started yet that I didn't realise were written down under!)

If I ever managed to save up enough money myself, I'd go too.

Oh, Hans.... oh, oh, oh, that looks like a dangerous place.

My only question is, where are all the wheelbarrows?

This is wonderful to see each year after you've gone...but I have the same question that Lanen does...where are all the wheelbarrows lug all the books back to their cars.

I think we would so much love to go to this !!!
