Default Dragongirl (no spoilers)

Dragongirl came out today!

Got an email last night that the copy I pre-ordered has come in, so hubby is picking it up for me today! I'll have it in my hot little hands by this evening.

Anyone else got their copy yet?

Think I have it on pre-order at Amazon; so it'll take some time to get from the US to Holland.

For them to send you the message must mean they already had it ready

Hans, I got my copy from my local sci fi bookstore. Or rather, I'll have it when hubby gets home from work!

Yes, I understood. But I meant, for them to have it ready on the publication day must mean they had it before then

They always do. Books come in before "publication" (actually it's a release date.) Some stores got in SERIOUS trouble for breaking into their shipments of some of the later Harry Potter books early. The dates on Amazon and such are the dates stores can begin selling them.

I've had fond memories of going to Harry Potter book openings The first one was at Fed Square when we rocked up and Junior won best character for being the only one amongst the crowd of Hermoine's and Harry's, who dressed up as Ron Weasley and actually looking like a junior edition of him to boot. The last one we went to, the little darling got to open the first box in our local area - he was quite excited about having his piccy taken for the local paper (even our local bookstore had him as a Ron Weasley look-a-like - their Harry Potter look-a-like was a little too old by that stage to effectively pull it off).

But yes I have heard of stores getting into trouble for that kind of thing too.

Oh you just stole my thunder - I have a copy in my hot sweaty hands now.

My friend works in a bookshop and she was given a free copy from a rep yesterday. She took it home and then realised that there was someone who might appreciate it more

We were meeting tonight anyway for tea (as we probably won't get chance again before I go to Oz and she owed me a meal out for my b'day in a couple of weeks) so she passed it on to me

I have a photo to prove it - but I have to work out how my new camera works etc first

PS this is UK edition due out next week

Last edited by kc; Jul 28 2010 at 05:18 PM. Reason: hopefully just added photo

I need to go make a trip to the book store. I still have Christmas gift certificate money to spend because I specifically saved it for this book because I knew it was coming out.

I'm looking forward to reading something a little lighter. I've been working though Eric Flint's 1632 series, so Pern is a welcome break from all of the heavy politics.

Sorry Dear... If it makes you feel any better, mine is the US edition... so in a way we were both 'first'.

I'd post a photo, but my camera needs charging, and the book looks exactly the same...

Unfortunately, with w**k and the other hobby (Family History), plus shopping for my trip I haven't had chance to sit down and read. I have boasted about it though

Samsara we could have a good chinwag when I get to Perth - though I'm not planning on taking any books with me (not even for signature )

Kath

PS - I'll probably pick some up paperbacks when I get there. I also picked up a bargain (well I think so) via Australian e-bay which is being delivered to the hotel - 1st edition HB Dragondrums for £16.86 ($28.65 AUD) inc postage.

Sounds good KC, I'm looking forward to meeting you! If you're looking for books when you get here, I know a couple of places I could take you!

I saw that DDRums you purchased, and I also think you got a bargain! Well done, I'm glad it went to someone from MoM!!

You can discuss it here in the Dragonriders of Pern forum and please do so! With a spoiler warning attached of course. Other will chime in later!

Cool, thanks Hans. I just wasn't sure, because hardly anyone has read it yet... I'll start a spoiler thread later tonight! Do I just tag the thread like I have this one, but with "spoiler warning" in the title?

Sam, unlike this forum you will see that - when you start a new thread in the DRoP forum - you will have a box to chose a prefix from. Simply chose spoiler and make the title Discussion of Dragongirl (or something like that). No need to put an extra spoiler warning in the title that way.
