Greetings to all,
My name is Raena ( RL it's Ruthie). About 15 years ago, after my oldest child passed away, I found the Girl Who Heard Dragons and read it and fell in love with the dragon holding the crystal ball and decided if ever I was to get a tatto that would be it. Carolyn was born in the year of the dragon in 1988. So finally, in 1999, My brother a lover of the Pern series did the art work for me. So here he sits , just slightly modified standing on a rock , with his tail curled around it. It is so awesome! He even hid her name in the artwork somehow. Later that year I found out I was pregnant again. She was born also in the year of the Dragon! her name is Karma. She even growled in utero. I have been looking for someplace to tell someone that for a long time. That little dragon help me keep my sanity somehow in my darkest hours. She was almost five when she died and I was completely lost. Whoever drew that little dragon, thank you. I always assumed he was Heth. If not who is he?

Hello Raena/Ruthie and welcome to MoM, enjoy yourself here. You'll find this is an easygoing community if Anne fans in which you can share fun stories and more serious stuff alike, if you want to.

That is a helluva RL story in which that little dragon seen on an AMC cover plays a role. Yes, I indeed think it is meant to be bronze Heth trying to reach Aramina in the nut plantation at Lemos, but in the light of your story that's not really important.

Welcome to MoM, Raena! Michael Whelan drew the artwork on the cover and inside the US edition of The Girl Who Heard Dragons; he's one of my favorite SF/F artists.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your first daughter. Hans and I were remarking to each other just the other week what a horrid thing it is for a parent to lose a child, and how every parent hopes not to outlive any of his/her children. Your brother sounds like the best a sister could hope for, and your second dragon child Karma a wonderful blessing.

Thank you so much,
My Heth is deep green and gold because I had no colors at the time to go with it was just sketched. So Maybe my brother knew more than I it seems. I am still a newbie where the books come in but hope to have some time in my hectic schedule to do some reading. I have been so busy writing and working and being a mom.

Welcome Raena!

We hope you're here to stay a while,
as I hope these lines will raise a smile,
because we're just a family
who loves our Anne books, as you'll see

and though we chatter on and on
until the weary hours be gone,
relax, and ask away, or speak
your piece until your voice be weak.

And best of all, when logging off,
you'll find enough is not enough,
that we'll be here tomorrow, stay
merely a logging on away.

From Lady Maelin unto Hans,
from places near to far off lands,
we gather, meeting minds and fans
(at least we don't collect tin cans!).

So Raena, thank you, stay a while,
I hope these lines gave you a smile.

Raena, I also want to welcome you to the MoM site, we are a very friendly and interesting group of people. We come from far and near, and we all have a least one thing in common (usually many more), we all love Anne McCaffrey's stories. No mater how few or many of her stories you have read, you will find some one hear that has also read it, and will gladly chat with you about it.

Perhaps being here with us, when ever you can find the time, will bring you a small if unexpected joy and a chuckle or two. We can be very intertaining, and you will be surprised how much you can learn about all kinds of subjects.

I have left you greetings in other places on the site, but let me welcome you in here too, I am glad to have you come to play with us Adults, (at least some of us are adults, though I am not sure about some others of them that go around cracking whips at people for nothing at all really , or some that go around wearing other peoples dresses ...... )so I hope it is a lot of fun for you and that you stay around with us for a very long time. Welcome again Apocalypse!!!

I post over there occasionally but there's a gap somehow. I don't know if it's cultural or generational. I like SOME of the games but the rest of it . . . . . .

I am a recent member. I started reading, or rather listening to, the Pern series while taking a trip. My first was Dragonflight and then I just couldn't get enough. I have almost all of the books on CD or DVD. I have listened to them countless times. I have recently started listening to some of Anne's other books. They are just as captivating as the Pern series. So now I have some new ones to enjoy. I am glad I found this website and glad I found Anne. She just has a great gift of storytelling!!!
