Orange sherbert!

Glad to hear that it rained. Are you close to any of the bushfires at all?

The mountain you want is Mount Wellington, the biggest in Tassie. It is well and truly nowhere near Cradle Mountain, which is in the North-West actually. And yes it does snow there. If anyone from my region wants to go to the snow, without going all the way to Hobart or Ben Lomond in Launceston the go to Cradle.

It was 46 degrees yesterday and its 35 today. Seriously I nearly fainted in yesterdays heat . That is, of course until I got a big frozen coke from Macca's. Oh it saved my life! And I envy you Myt, we haven't had rain since the middle of November and it's horrible! What I would give for a bit of rain!
*toddles off to do daily rain dance* It's not working!

Thank you so very much, Rainbrith. I am not totally familiar with the mountains of Tasmania, althouh a better grasp of Oz's geography would do me well, no doubt.

If anyone asked me to poing out Kansas on a map, though, I'd have no clue. Oh, I know where New England is, and Rhode Island, as any good little fan of H. P. Lovecraft should, but most states? Nah!

It's the easiest one to find, Cheryl! After all, it's the SMALLEST state on the northeast coast!

GHYLE , no I am not near the brush fires. We had them just down the road last summer though. Every year we have very bad fires in southern California, but so far nothing that was that close to me.

Good thing you're not near the fires at all. I heard that Cross Plains in Texas, home town of Robert E. Howard (who was, as we should remember, the creator of Conan the Barbarian), got hit.

I'm betting your Ma was mad less for the attempt to get ice cream itself than for nearly getting yourself killed in the freezer! Ice cream is important, but not that important!

Actually Ghyle..Remember how I think I'm like Lessa temper-wise? Well, where do you think I got it from, hmmm? The worst part was that th icecream was chocanilla(don't you love my words). I was forbidden to touch it in the first place...In case you not know, I have authority issues though I never put a toe over the line...well mabey occasionally..that was one of those occasions...makes me wonder why I'm still alive? hehehe

Ok for the Ice Cream discussion, the absolute best is "PRALINE CARMEL SWIRL" it is the best on the planet, along with Neopolitan( chocolate, vanilla, strawberry). I love the low fat, no sugar kind that is out now. I can eat it and not get sick(have a slight milk problem to)afterwords.

Inspirational... now that's an interesting word! Is the word Inspirational inspirational? (sorry thinking again)
Anyway Ice-cream disscussion.. as long as it's not red, blue, grape, pink, banana, strawberry, rasberry, bubblegum, obviously fake flavoured or chemical flavoured I'm fine! (that goes for lollies too, but for that add milk bottles)

I had to laugh yesterday. I went shopping and saw Coke Zero. It's slogan is no sugar, real taste so I read the ingredients. It has only carbonated water, caffine, and assorted chemicals. (I hate coke anyway)

Hi, I'm not even sure if this is the right place to introduce myself but here goes anyway. I'm new here, been lurking for a few days as a guest and decided to take the plunge this morning and register. I'm Caffy, in my fifties, so that probably means I'm amongst the oldest here, and married for many years with grown-up kids and a young grand-daughter.

I've been a fan of Anne McCaffrey since I was in my late teens. Oddly enough though, that doesn't mean I've read all her books. I read the first Pern books, The Ship Who Sang, Restoree, Doona etc. and then didn't read any more until a couple of years ago when I suddenly went back to them. I'm currently rereading the Pern books, have just finished The White Dragon and am now reading the first of the ones that are new to me - Renegades of Pern. Favourite books so far are definitely The Harper Hall series; I adore Robinton so anything with him in is fine by me. It's no understatement to say that I'm smitten anew with the whole Pern universe and very pleased that I still have a few of them left to read.

I'm quite a book worm to tell the truth and have other favourite authors such as Ursula Le Guin, Sheri Tepper, Brian Lumley, Diana Norman etc. Other interests include gardening, writing, photography, movies, TV, Live Journal.

Nice to be here.

And about that reading not everything she wrote... that number is far larger than you think, she is/has been a prolific writer

Nice sounding nickname!

Welcome Caffy! I'm glad you took the plunge and joined up!

Quite a lot of fans don't read anything besides Pern, so you're already ahead of the curve. If everything after White Dragon is new to you, I'll be interested in hearing what you think of the direction Anne takes Pern in those later books. And I should warn you that you're likely to come across plot spoilers in the Pern forum, because we take it for granted that everything but books released less than a year ago have been read by most everyone.

I just wanted to say thanks to all for the lovely welcome. I think I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time here over the coming days, reading the posts and comments.

And thanks too for the warning about spoilers, Cheryl, I have some idea of how the Pern books go but will, nevertheless, take care about which posts I choose to read. A friend threw one huge spoiler at me a few days ago as a matter of fact, something that, although I'd guessed it was on the cards, really did throw me. I thought I didn't mind spoilers but now I'm not so sure...

Great welcome poem, Ghyle, it really did put a big smile on my face.

Hi!
Welcome!
I'm a bit of a spoiler addict myself- its a bit like chocolate-you always want more!
The book discussions tend to have loads of spoilers in them- mainly cos they are questions.
we're on All The Weyrs of Pern this month-which as its one of the newer ones you may not have read it yet-but if you have or are reading it soon come and join in!
though there will be LOTS of spoilers as I tend to have to try to explain what I mean!

welcome anyway
