i love Anne Mcafferys books i fist found dragons song at the library and since i love dragons i decided to read it ....ive been hooked ever since my favoite series that Anne wrote is the Acorna series i am 17 and going on my last year of school i love most fantasy books but so far Anne's are my favorite

Hello, everyone. I'm a new member here. My online name is Bingley Austen. I read Dragonflight and Dragonquest when they first came out, but what with one thing and another although I was vaguely aware that more Pern books had appeared I never really got hold of any till a year or so ago when I came across Dragonsong and Dragonsinger.

Since then I've been keeping my eyes open for the others and have now read in what the earlier books called the recommended order (which I think is the order they were written in, no?) up as far as Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern. I actually found Moreta in a collection called On Dragonwings so now I'm going to read Dragonsdawn and Dragonseye out of order, instead of Nerilka's Story (which is on my Christmas list). Or is this a very bad idea?

don't think so! WHen I started reading them (2 and a bit years ago) I read them as I could find them, Dsong, Moreta, Skies...
got v v confused by Moreta but didn't make much difference in the long run (read all the novels except Dblood)

reccomended order is the order they're published, but I've only read them in this order since I've been doing the discussions (I read them in a roughly cronological order before)

It helps to read them in order, but it's not neccessary. I too started out reading whichever ones I could get my hands on. Once I'd read them all, and gotten them all, then I read them in order

Welcome Bingley!

Skipping Nerilka's Story for now isn't a big deal. It's essentially the same story as Moreta, just told from a different point of view.

I've got a suggested reading order on my Pern site, which is in publication order but lists earlier substitutions you can make. Of course it doesn't cover every possibility (such as skipping Nerilka), but it might help answer some questions. But feel free to ask here too!

Although I read most in order, up to and including The White Dragon (it had just come out in paperback, here in Oz, when I read it) I had a break, and played catch-up when I could with the rest, up to Masterharper. And did I regret that volume!

Anyway, don't fret, just sit back, get comfy, and enjoy.

For my fiance's sister, when she had her baby last month, I made them a birth record with a piccy of two monkey's hugging each other rather than the average 'cutesy' stuff. Much nicer!
