Question Here, there be dragons.

I wrote this poem in 1994 and have just recently discovered it so bear with me. Hope I'm not infringing on any toes as I wrote it in between reading The White Dragon and All the Weyrs of Pern, when all I had was dragons on my mind.
P.S. Cheryl, be the first to tell me if I am, thanks JUBE!

HERE, THERE BE DRAGONS

Here, there be dragons,
Those glorious creatures of the sky,
'Ware the dragon Gold,
The queen of majestic beauty.
The Bronze,
Her mate to be.
There be the Brown,
Who fought to gain another day!
Blue and Green,
Protecting me from harm.

Here, there be dragons,
The White,
A rarity of nature,
But more courageous then I,
To brave the fight and win,
Where are you now?
Back in our past,
Or in our future?
Where are you now?

Here, there be dragons,
Where are you, white one?
How can I tell you<
Of what I have seen?
Of other worlds and places,
Of other people and times?
They would not have believed!
And if they did,
Would they discover,
What I already know?

Here, there be dragons,
A dragon for life,
'Till death do us part!
But a dragon for life,
Is worth living for!
For a friend is a friend,
That has not let me down,
And will always be forever!

Okay folks, that's the sum of it all! Happy I've put it up and hopefully it's alright. Please tell me. My only notice is that I wrote it in 1994 and my little grey cells are telling me, that I hoping it's copywriteable, which is why I'm asking Cheryl first.

Thanks Jube.

Nice poem Jube!

A couple years ago Anne decided to relax the rules of fanfic writing by quite a bit. Now people can and do write stories even about her characters, and are able to publish them online. The only caveat is still that you aren't allowed to make money on anything fandom related. The only exception as far as I know are Tanya Opland and Mike Freeman's CDs, and Anne gets credit and a part of the profit from those. So it's not copywriteable in the sense that you could publish it elsewhere.

Thanks Granath. I wasn't sure about it. I mean in the sense, I remember reading about it but at the same time, couldn't be certain whether that was still the case or not, accordingly. I have another one somewhere too but in the process of finding it so I'll have it up soon. This one, I particularly liked too, even if I say so, myself.

I'm still trying to find the follow up to this one. I know I've placed it somewhere. I wrote only 2 at the time but can create more if needs be.

BEHIND THE LOOKING GLASS

What's hiding under the grime?
Dirt encrusted fingernails,
Eyes that see right through you
But quickly disappearing under a fringe of black tangled hair.
Matted, torn, not forgetting.

Search is on,
Where did she go?
The power is strong,
Is she on the Western Reaches?
Ista? In Harper Hall?

Ruatha, Ruatha,
I'm coming!
Strong is the power of a Queenrider.

Found what is lost.
Hello, small one,
She is so tiny,
But oh so strong of personality.

Lessa,
Untangling herself from dirt and webbing,
Up in a wyer's cave,
Fly, my girl, Fly.
The Queen awaits you.
Go forth and dream of a whole new world.
Savior of dragons.

Not sure if there's another page of this or not. So, Okay I must written a few of them because the one I was looking for, hasn't been found but this one was. The search is on!!!!!!

Momentary lapse of concentration ment that internet was experiencing problems so haven't got through until now which kind of kills the thrill of finding out what other people have thought of my little works of art. Thank you for your kind words so far and I'll try to publish more as it comes to hand. Will add as it comes.

I have a question - maybe someone on MoM staff can answer it perhaps? Just wondering if FanFic (stories, poems, songs etc) ever land on Ms McCaffrey's desk and does she read them? Seem to recall reading something in someone's thread but can't remember all the details so putting the question to minds who may know more about it. I realise that her son Todd as well as Mike Freeman and Tania Opland are so far the only ones that I know about, that's in the public eye, who have "official YAY's" but what of others, barring perhaps the likes of Michael Whelan and similiar artists who have done the book covers for her. Hmm...just wondering that's all, as to whether I should do these up nicely as a Thank You gift or not for our mutual favourite author.... What do others think about it? I NEED MORE INFO ABOUT IT! Thanks muchly for any help!

I understand that she refuses to read fan-fic, etc. on the grounds of intellectual copyright.

If she comes up with a scenario that somebody has already used in a fan-fic then (because she hasn't read the fan-fic) SHE can't get done for plagarism.

Unfortunately, P'ter is absolutely correct Anne does not read fanfic in any shape or form for precisely the reason that if she doesn't read any of it she can't be accused of stealing a plot from a fan She will happily accept gifts of other items such as craft work or art work, (she's been delighted with gifts from Maelin and Priscilla, to name but two of our talented MoMers and also contributed herself to our book Forty Years of Pern ) but reading written work set in one of her worlds is, alas, a strict no-no. Personally, I think it's a very sad sign of the litigous society in which we now live But I fully understand why that's her policy.

Thanks for that, figured someone out there would be able to help me so much appreciated. I suppose really, the only way to overcome that, would be in collarboration with someone like Todd or Jody Lynn Nye or Elizabeth Moon et al and only if she knows them....Is okay, I'm quite happy to share with all of you anyway and it's more personal when you see all the different things everyone comes up with, art, poetry, short stories etc. Some are quite brilliant at what they do and others do it for the enjoyment of getting it out of their system. So

You could consider the two crossroad adventures that Jody Lynn Nye wrote a "sort of Pern fanfiction" but otherwise... what Anneli and P'ter said: Anne won't read fanfiction but will happily accept any sort of gift of any kind, even derivative work Getting a place on the overcrowded shelves and walls of Dragonhold-Underhill though... that's hard, as there hardly is any space there. Anne has (of course) the biggest collection of original artwork done for books she wrote and that doesn't leave much wallspace. So if fanart does find a place somewher it is usually the small stuff and it ending up in Anne's office is the best chance.
