Default Fanzine Questions

Are there places to buy fanzines? I tried to look for the Crystal Singer fanzine (after I learned it existed from this forum ) on eBay, but I found copies of the books and audiobooks listed.

I know fanzines can be costly to collect. At a pulp convention, I saw single issues of Amra fanzines (Robert E. Howard) going for at least $12 each. At the auction, one item was a complete run of Amra, and the final bid was more than $1,000. (But it had 71 issues! ) So I do want to avoid paying $1,000 or more.

Also, are there places with online fanzines available (either subscription model or free)?

Are there places where older fanzines have been scanned and placed online? (For example, I know a lot of the Sime~Gen fanzines have been placed online at http://www.simegen.com/ to make it available.)

I don't know of any special places for fanzines but bought most of mine on eBay. They are highly collectible and often fetch steep prices. The holy grail is The Pern Portfolio :-) of which there's a collector's highlight in the appropriate subforum.

I dont' think there are any current dedicated McCaffrey fanzines (still) in operation.

As for you last question. I never scanned the fanzines except for the Portfolio of which we printed a copy to send around the world to get signed by fans active on the fiorum here, but it got lost :-( If you care to give me an emailaddress and if I can find the digital copy I could mail it to you.

I looked at some of the images. Wow! I found more fanzines when I searched again on eBay -- using better search terms this time. They fetch higher prices than most issues of Amra -- but there were probably fewer copies printed.

Aww. I'm sure that's true of a lot of SFF fandoms, unless you count online fanzines such as Ansible. Then again, I'd have to follow the Kittywompus site to keep up with print fanzines.

Thanks! I think my email is available through the site. If not, if you can find it, please send it to critteranne [at] yahoo.com.

That’s OK. I know it was sort of like a unicorn. Thank you for looking.
