Hi Virginia,

It was a pleasure to meet you today at the outreach group meeting and we hope
that you and Dan find an opportunity to take advantage of our sensory program.

I will add you to our e-mail list. Below is the long list upcoming performancesfor which we will make the sensory services available. We ask that if you are interested, you give us a minimum of one week's notice so that we may prepare.

Wausau Community Theatre's Sensory Program for the Performing Arts (SPPA) wasestablished in 2008 to provide a more enjoyable theater experience to people with visual or hearing impairments through on-stage tours and live performanceaudio description. With the assistance of our program partner, CenterStage Bandand Show Choir, SPPA is offered at many local arts performances. Call or e-mailto learn how to participate.

Wisconsin
• Wausau Community Theatre in Schofield provides audio description and touch tours on stage before each show as part of their Sensory Program. They also provide Sensory services to five other local arts organizations. Email the Sensory program coordinator or call (715) 370-2694. May '11

Copps Praises Fox, CBS, Others for Video Descriptions
Allows the blind to become "audio viewers"
By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/3/2011 11:50:45 AM
Democratic FCC Commissioner Michael Copps gave a shout out to broadcasters on Thursday who are currently providing video description service for their programming.

That came as the FCC voted Wednesday to implement the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act, signed into law last fall. Among that bills mandates are that large-market broadcasters and large MVPDs begin delivering those descriptions and that those MPVDs pass through broadcast descriptions (with an exemption for live programming).

Video descriptions allow the blind to become "audio viewers" as it were via descriptions of scenes that supplement dialog.

Although the FCC's video description rules were thrown out by the courts more than a decade ago some, some broadcasters and cable operators continued the practice. "I do want to commend CBS, FOX, PBS, TCM and TNT for providing this important service in the interim on their own accord," said Copps Thursday. ]
