Claude Choules 1901-2011

He was the last known living combat veteran of the battlefields of WW1.

Odd. Just yesterday I was wondering about whether they had all passed or not. I wasn't near a computer when it occurred to me.

Brave souls all.

It again remembers me of the untter idiocy of that war, the way the leaders of both sides behaved and the utter disrespect for the soldiers they had, for both their own and the other side's. Never has there been a more devastating and meaningless war than that one. Millions lost their lives for nothing, absolutely nothing in an atrocious war.

The last combative person has died, may he rest in peace, but I know that won't be possible

The last American veteran died just recently; last month, I think. He was a Missouri native, as am I. Another link to that part of the past is gone. May he rest in peace.

Mr.s Choules led an incredibly brave life, having served and fought in both of the World Wars...he also leaves behind him a fine family that will long remember him.

Draco...his name was *Frank Buckles* and he was also 110 year old, like Mr. Choules was......both were very brave men, honored for serving their countries...like so many who served with them.

There is reputed to be one lady left who served in WW1 as an Army Cook (non-combatant)

Partially correct P'ter, she was a Nursing Assistant during the war, but Mr. Choules was the last living Combat Veteran.
