Default More Fall Foliage: La Plata Canyon

These pictures are up La Plata Canyon, which is in the La Plata Mountains, which are part of the San Juans, which are the mountains from my other set. If there's blue sky and/or snow I took them Monday the 6th. If it's overcast and no snow then it's Friday the 3rd. I have a couple of the same shots, which I will put side by side for comparison

Just starting up the canyon

Now just from the 3rd

You might remember this one from my waterfall walk

And the 6th. A storm blew through over the weekend and voila! snow.

Those are beautiful!!!!! I had to keep looking back and forth between them. That must have been quite the storm.

Wow, so beautiful! That snow looks refreshing! It's been in the 90's where I live.

All the pictures look great. . . I really like the one of the multicolored aspens, with the reds, green and yellow.

We had a storm blow through in AZ over last weekend, too! I work for the Forest Service, and just put together the weekly fAll colors report (this goes on the forest web site, and also on the regional hotline), so I've had the pleasure of looking at a lot of pretty pix and seeing a lot of lovely scenery.

****From a photographer, to another: Your blue skies look great, Pam! Do you use a polarizing filter?

Thanks everyone Since La Plata Canyon is so close (it's where I go to see trees) I'm going to try to do this as a seasonal thing.

It actually wasn't much of a storm in the grand scheme of things, but we had our first good rain in about a month.

It's been in the 80's here during the day and today, 4 days after I took the pictures, the snow is almost gone.

The forest service foliage report is an excellent thing. It helped me time my trip to Silverton, since I can't see those mountains from here. La Plata Canyon all I have to do is look north out the window. I toyed with taking a drive to Wolf Creek, because theirs were lagging behind, but decided I'd probably seen enough orange trees.

I didn't use any filter at all, just my advanced point and shoot 8.1 megapixel, 12X optical zoom camera. The sky was really that blue, as it often is.

Very nice. It's a shame that the onset of those wonderful colors means that things are dying.

Only temporarily. The leaves will be back next spring, and there'll always be more springs. Well, until our sun runs out of fuel a few billion years from now.

Awesome pictures! I really like the one where the trunks are almost bluish.
