Those are some gorgeous pictures.

I'm jealous because a lot of the flowers are still not in full bloom up here, if they've popped up at all. Also, the trees around here are leafless, and I can't even tell if there are buds on them.

I need to think positive, at least the weather has been gorgeous for the past several days.

If you played around with the second one in PhE you could easily make a beautiful haunted house

Nice pics!

Hans your right, the second pic has all the makings of an old haunted house. Specially with the bare branched tree in front of it. I love that architecture to is that a Victorian style house?

Also, the pink flowers are great. I recognize them but can't remember the name, do you know what they are Cheryl? Anyway, lovely pics, thanks for sharing.

Those are blossoms of the Okame cherry tree, but they look very reminiscent of fuschia flowers (which don't grow on trees).

Details on the mansion from the arboretum's website:
In 1863 Jesse Tyson, a Baltimore businessman and importer, began contruction of Cylburn Mansion as a summer home for his mother and himself. The Mansion is a luxurious post-Civil War dwelling, built of gneiss from Tyson's quarries at Bare Hills, Maryland, with mansard roof, a tower and a cupola of Italianate design. Its fireplaces, inlaid floors, mosaics, tapestries and ornate plaster work have been preserved.
So it seems the architecture is Italianate, not Victorian. Anyone else find it a little creepy that he built the home for himself and his mother to share?

It could be taken to be a bit creepy but not entirely. Did he ever marry? I know that George Eastman, of Kodak, never married and his house is huge. He built certain parts specifically taking into account his mothers age. It is mentioned in the museum(his house is a museum now) that he chose not to marry because he didn't think that his children would appreciate the lives they were born into and he preferred to remain single vs. raising spoiled brats.

It doesn't give further details, but given that the mansion and land were turned into a public park I'm thinking there weren't any heirs to leave it to.

And really, it is sweet that he took care of his mother and let her live with him. It was just something about the phrasing of building a summer home for the two of them (I guess something about summer home sounds romantic to me...).

Thanks Nef!

I've created a new topic for posting my photos to, to keep things organized, and not need to start a new topic anytime I add more pictures. For the month of April I took a mind-boggling 1060 photos!

This topic can continue as a comments thread, for anyone that wishes to comment!

I really loved the new ones from the Sherwood gardens...between you and Ane, I want to go our and buy a whole trunk load of tulips. The one of the kids in the tree was very cute...its great for you and your photo taking that they are so adventurous, it lends itself to some facinating photos...are your walls filling up with some of the more spectacular one now???

Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Cheryl, here is a hint for you - actually I borrowed it from someone at work who does the same thing. What she does is take loads of photos - flowers, cacti, succulents, cartwheels, old tractor machinery, trains etc etc...- then turns them into cards to anyone at work who's interested for about $3 each - think this helps to cover her costs of paper, envelopes, photo-printing etc. I'm sure that you could do something similiar because these are all marvellous photos. I realise the ones of your kids would be personal ones to send to grandparents or any relations (b'days, xmas, anniversaries) but any of the trees, flowers or scenic photos could easily be done for outside orders, which is mainly what my workmate does as a hobby - she considers anything she sells as a bonus to keep her hobby going. FOOD FOR THOUGHT anyway for your consideration. Me, I'll stick to doing my own favourite things.

Sorry for posting in the wrong place...Fantastic picture, and you do have a lovely knack for taking the unusually beautiful scene.

I have been told before that when a Bee is gathering nectar, he won't or can't sting...that those types of Bee's don't even have a stinger. I have never trusted it enough to look close enough to find out...but I'm not as afraid of them anymore as long as their carring around pollen lumps on their legs.

No sweat, it's easy to move posts where they belong.

I don't trust any bee not to sting me unless I can see that it doesn't have a stinger (which requires a closer view then I'd prefer). I used to believe that bumblebees didn't have stingers at all. I learned the hard way that that's not true!

I just got a look at the photos you took while in Florida...WOW..WOW..WOW!!! How in this world did you get the photo of the *Cicada* you can see the striping on its back...or the spider with its web...hanging by a thread...now that is impressive. You are certianly getting the hang of photography...

The spider was quite happy on her web, I just held the camera below and snapped the pic. As for the cicada it was actually dead, so no trouble to get the camera up close and take a few pictures

My really lucky shot was the first heron in flight. I did crop that photo a little, but only a little.
