Default Is Spring ever going to arrive this year?

I'm not generally one too much for ranting...but winter is really starting to grate on me somewhat.

Had one nice weekend at either the end of February or start of March, can't remember where I valeted the old Saab, gave it a good polish, then went out for the obligatory drive with the windows down, sunroof open and Mr. Blue Sky blasting out the stereo...

...Then found myself no more than two days later trying to scrape the best part of a half inch of solid ice off said car to get into it. Temperature has barely got into positive digits since, and I'm starting to feel that I'm living up at High Reaches rather than Aberdeen (though granted, I guess there's not much difference in latitude now I think about it...).

I'm not a fan of the cold...and have many things I could be doing if I could get outside for more than two minutes without feeling frozen to the core...Can it be spring now please?

Failing that, can someone direct me towards the nearest travel agent that can book me a three to four week vacation in Ista please?

We could use some Spring, too. I would love a few weeks in Florida but that won't come until next year.

Yeah, I know the feeling since we just had a snow storm that dumped a significant amount of snow on the ground.

It's never truly spring in Maine until May. We've had storms that have dropped a foot or more in April, so I'm not out of the woods yet. Even after winter comes, we have to get through mud season before I even think about spring and summer.

It was 60f one day the next day we got 6 inches of snow, followed by 50F the next day.
No wonder I have had headaches all week. I HATE it when temps change like that.

Thankfully we seem to have dodged most of the snow, though it's been pretty bad (by UK standards!) further south. Here it's mainly just being absolutely relentlessly cold.

Not crazy-cold like it gets in some places (was over in Michigan in February...*that* was cold), but plenty cold enough that a wimp like me can't handle it for anything more than a few minutes!

I'm begining to worry about our UK farmers. Normally they'd be out ploughing and sowing by now, but the ground's too cold for germination.

I had not gotten that far in my thoughts but you are right. This Sunday is Easter and there are usually crocuses and a few other early flowers up. I see nothing. I guess on a brighter side we had so much snow that all the water reservoirs and wells should be good and full, meaning no shortage of water for the summer.

we've had jonquils blooming off and on (through the snow) all month, and a few days more. Might have a hyacinth or two somewhere. Day lilies are sprouting, but they'll be a bit yet.

Zelandeth I was got a chuckle out for your post. I too can't wait for spring, there is a big bank of snow in front of our patio door, and I can't see the tree where we get birds, and other animals stop by.

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking. (Also, this is Michigan, it's not SUPPOSED to be warm yet.) Especially after the utter misery last August (I honestly thought my ENTIRE LAWN was not going to make it--ever had grass crunch when you walked on it?) we really, really need the snow build-up and meltwater because there was no rain last summer for something like a month straight, with killer baking temperatures. This is less of a problem than last spring, too, in we haven't had any suicidal high temperatures (70+) too early. Lots of the fruit crops were wiped out when they budded too soon and there was still more frost to come.

And actually after last summer I can deal with extra cold. Cold is not so bad. 111 degrees in the city, temps so high even out here I couldn't even walk the dogs on the road because the pavement was too hot...I can deal with cold.

I'm waiting for spring too, it still looks like winter, even though I'm really happy that at least the days are decently long again. The dark gets me much more than the snow.

Today was beautiful! There is no snow or ice left to be seen around here, and the heavy jackets stayed in the closet. Mom and Baby Brother even got out in the gardens and did some clear-up work. It was nice to turn off the heat.

I've also realised that none of the trees seem to have any buds yet. I hope we remember how late it was if we have a hot, humid summer and start to complain about that! I guess I'll take the cold over heat!

Although we're had some rain (over Easter, of course) it's still pretty hot and very dry. But next week end our clocks change back to GMT+12 and the evenings will draw in. The weather seems to change pretty quick after that. I do hope we do not get as miserable a winter as you've been having in northern.

We drove back to Townsend from Philadelphia today and it rained most of the way. When we left Philadelphia it was 60 and when we got home it was barely 50!! We do have some crocusus and dafodiles but that's it!! There is a green sheen in the woods as the trees start to bud but I can't wait for the warmer weather to really get started!!

Same lament here The new born lambs look as miserable as it's possible to be, and our friend who has a farm is in despair at how difficult it is to keep them alive...

On a brighter note, since the clocks jumped forward last weekend, walking the dog for her last stroll is chilly but no longer darker than Between

Made the mistake today of believing it was as warm as it looked out there - had been bright and sunny all day...still only 3 degrees C though plus whatever the wind coming from due north shaves off that.

Suffice to say I regretted failing to remember to pick up hat and gloves.

Granted - not as bad as the day last week when I decided not to bother with jacket or anything when running across the road to our other building at work for a meeting (probably 2-3 minutes outside if that). Yeah...I keep forgetting how good a job that formal dresswear does at NOT providing any insulating properties or blocking the wind out. Two minutes to get chilled to the core - rest of the afternoon to get warmed up again. Oh what fun. Taking minutes of a meeting with numb fingers is quite interesting though it has to be said. My writing's hard enough to decypher at the best of times!

Forecasts *suggest* that we should be heading towards more normal temperatures for this time of year over the next couple of weeks...though we had hailstones again this afternoon as well just to make sure we were paying attention.

Weather up here is always unpredictable at best, but it's really pushing our patience this year so far I think!

We finally have our first pansies out in the yard. They have come up in a corner beside the garage door, not where I planted them. I think the gardening term for that is "self-sewed", but my aunt in Iowa always called plants like that "volunteers". Has anyone else ever used that term? They are very pretty, I took a picture with my phone and sent it to Fred. Since it is busy season for accountants he's been working 10 and 12 hour days and more plus weekends. He loves what he's doing and is good at it, can't ask for more than that!

I've actually planted out half-a-dozen strwberry plants and added a new rosemary to my herbs.

I'm sorry for the farmers. They're reporting that they've only been able to plant 75% of the cereal crops. If we get a bad summer like last year we're going to be over 2 million tons of grain short this year.

We got some snow over the weekend. At least it melted quickly, as it is apt to do when it snows in April, so I don't know exactly how much came down.

There was a snow storm in April my senior year of high school that dumped several inches on the ground. I remember that one because we had a performance at a luncheon for the orchestra, and where we were performing was right around the corner from my house. Everyone else had to meet at the high school, and I walked in the snow. It would have been pointless for me to meet everyone at the high school because that's on the opposite side of town.

That's Maine weather for you, and we still really haven't gotten to mud season yet.

Well, looks like the warm has finally arrived.

Been out in it for one day...and managed to get myself burned to a crisp. Well done.

Oh, the hazards of wandering around a classic car show on the coast! Breezy all day so it didn't *feel* all that warm - hence the sweater stayed on all day. Good thing it did as that (and the fact that I need a haircut) meant that it's only really my forehead that's really been too badly fried. Does mean I've got the whole inverse raccoon look going on from my sunglasses though.

Of course, my co-workers today have proved to be full of sympathy.

Note to self: Buy extra bottle of sunblock next time you go shopping, then stick it in the Box Of Important Stuff in the back of the car for next time you forget to take any with you.

Think this looks like a good sign that summer's here. Even though am absolutely kicking myself now for not wandering over there after the show was finished and getting a proper photo of the beach over there. Lovely azure blue water there too - mind you I know full well not to go and jump into it - it's still the North Sea, and I don't rate its chances of being anywhere near what I would call a tolerable temperature! Oh well, need to wander back up there one of the days the weather's nice, only an hour or so drive away.

For anyone actually interested here (which I realise isn't likely to be many compared to most places I'm active), the one on the left is mine.

How nice to see another car show. We have a 'rally' every June for steam and classic vehicles. It was in West Park last weekend, which I can see from my kitchen window.

They even had an Armstrong Sidley, which is what I learnt to drive on: electric pre-selector gear change and all.

Quite a few shows around here at this time of year, quite a big one on this next weekend, not sure whether I'll get to that though as there are a lot of things I actually need to try to get done! We'll see I guess! Looks like our forecast (for what it's worth up here...) is nondescript but pretty warm for next weekend at the moment...

Warmth and sun, warmth and sun - am I dreaming, or have we really experienced two whole consecutive days of it?

We had spring about 2 weeks ago, it lasted 3-4 days. Now it is summer.
