Default Ninth portrait in Pern Museum Series: Avril Bitra

Among the most interesting characters Anne McCaffey created in her Pern series are the villains and thinking of especially female villains the name of Avril Bitra automatically pops up first. Fans are still wondering why there was ever a major Hold named after her, though admittedly it is populated by the least liked of Pern's inhabitants, and who doesn't know her famous last words... "Shove it Benden. You know where! You'll get nothing out of me. Oh, shit! Oh, shit! It's not the - oh, shiiiitt." The last with four i's and two t's. The Dragonsdawn characters could not be incorporated in Anne and Robin Wood's wonderful book The People of Pern but thanks to our very special "Pern Artist" Linda Eicher we can now see Avril Bitra in full glory. Linda has outdone herself with this erotic and sexy scene (boy will this earn me a lot of Google hits...) and has yet again succeded in placing all aspects of one of Anne's characters in a more than wonderful portrait. An extra special touch is that in the portrait Avril is holding the Shavva bint Faroud ruby. And that guy silhouetted in the foreground? It could be me, or you I guess... Oh, you want to see more? Well, click the thumbnail then!

It must have been an interesting challenge for our Master Maelin to do a portrait of someone most of us love to hate. To make her look as beautiful as she must have been but still dangerous, if not downright evil, had to have been quite a challenge! But once again consummate skill blended flawlessly with innate understanding of human nature and produced yet another portrait of perfection!

Great work

I imagine this is a scene on the way to Pern, before she'd given up all hope of becoming Paul Benden's other half?

Very nice portrait.

Well, I think if they ever do a Dragon's Dawn movie, Catherine Zeta Jones (Douglas) is a shoe-in for the part of Avril.

Edith... Thank you for the compliment....dangerous is a good look for Avril...glad you liked her.

Sandi...I love Anne's villians. Avril is one of her best so it was very interesting to attemt to draw her, showing just enough of her beauty and sexuality along with the right amount of villainy. Thank you...I am very glad that you are enjoying Avril.

Cilla...Thank you..thats just about how I felt too after reading the book. Avril was just plain nasty to the bone.

Thea...I'm glad that she looked the way you thought she should..thank you for the compliment.

AnnMarie...She went through a lot of men, and a lot of women sure didn't like her thats for sure...Thank you for your kind words.

Anneli...Thank you...actually this was the scene where Steve Kimmer and her spent some time in her cabin...where she showed him the Shava Ruby. I always thought that did a bit more than just talk before he left...

Tresa...Thank you...Oh noooo lets hope not...I like to Avril contained if thats possible...

Maw...Thakn you...I thought it was time for a change...and what better subject to change with than a villain.

*R*....Thank you for the compliment...devious is a good word for her

Keiva...Thank you kindly...but never perfect. With perfect there no room for improvement and with me there's always room for improvement

Jube...Thank you......perhaps I should issue a warning with this one then and not for the sexual implications but for the murderous intent.

GHaris...thank you kindly, and I would agree with you, along with quite a few of Anne's fans, she would be perfect.

Cavatica...Thank you...but consider...this might have been before sex, or maybe her hair is just to silky to get mussed, or possibly even her hair is to afraid to become unruly or out of place

Dragon Man...Thank you

Emeraldrose...Thank you

WOW!!!! She looks so real. I think I know who the shadow is. Poor Paul she was a great distraction for him while on duty or off duty (I hope). She is what must women will be crying into their pillows because their man had left them for her.

Hans, How about a art book of our wonderful Artist when she is finished with her portraits. I still can't believe she drew them they all look so real more like photos than artwork.

Topaz, that unfortunately does not look like it will be a possibility anytime soon nor in the foreseeable future. We should never say never, but you shouldn't get your hopes up.

Definitely resembles Catherine Zeta-Jones...

Hans, I have to disagree with a bit of the description:
Quote:
Stev Kimmer, a miner and mechanical engineer from England, who became her accomplice but, like so many others, was fooled by her.
I beg to differ. He was quite willing to go along with her get-rich-and-get-out plan, but was not at all surprised when she ditched him and flew off with the jewels; unlike her, he had been listening in on the radio and knew that the situation in Landing had changed, and he enjoyed the thought of her reaction to the changes! He had a hiding place all ready in the mountains, and he hid there for a while before returning to Landing and volunteering his skills.

Lemos and Nabol were both fools, but not Stev Kimmer.

My, my, my!!!!!!!! It's been a few days since I've been able to get to the computer and look what pops up!!!!
Another 'perfect' portrait!!! I use the word perfect in the sense that it is the perfect way to portray Avril Bitra! No other pose would BE her. This says everything about her character. She looks just too dangerous on so many levels! WOW!!! Thank you Master Maelin for another wonderful Pern character being brought to life.

Brenda, I am of the opinion (and I think there's enough evidence in the "island scene"for that) that Avril never intended to take Stev with her and would rather have killed him and thus he, albeit he may have been smarter than the other two (which I doubt) was royally fooled by her.

But it is alright to differ
