Bought the Roc one when it first came out, but still grabbed the limited one as well!
It's a nice book, not particularly fancy, but the four drawings in the book, while not intricate, make it unusual enough to be worth what I paid for it

A bit of history with the Wildside Press special issues of No One Noticed the Cat........
There are 26 leather bound, signed and lettered copies along with 123 special hardcover bindings (total 149 "surviving copies"), but they were printed with several errors. John Betancourt had several problems in getting this run of books bound and delivered and it took him several months to get them done. He was very happy the leather bound copies survived and from the letter he includes with both forms of the special issue it's a wonder any of the books made it to the binding stage.
Kind of neat to know that other folks have problems with their jobs, just like me! But I'm very glad that this worked out well for some of the books at least.

Bagpuss, what special copy do you have? The leather bound copy is black leather, signed by Anne and lettered a-z. The other special is a green leather looking binding, no signature and both have the title stamped in gold. If there's another special copy I wanna know.

So did your copy come with that letter of explanation by Betancourt? I thought it just the neatest thing, for some reason.

Hmmm, creating special copies for the sake of creating special issues which could be repeated in small number to fetch a special price now or later... I think I need to remember that strategy for my own publications

Ah.. the world of POD, wonderful.

Becky, you have all these lovely little tid-bits of information that are so great to hear about.

It also tells me that my hope of all signed first is going to be a very long one, well into the next life I would expect. Well it will be well worth the hunt and the treasures that can be found. Thank you for sharing........

Hans, Betancourt was soooo frustrated with trying to get the books published, but this bindery was having difficulties due to the original owner passing away and his son trying to take over. Son didn't do too well and Betancourt managed to get what they'd done before they closed their doors. So he took what he had to another bindery to finish them off. So not sure how much more he made from this messup. I doubt he made much extra as the 26 were planned special bindings, I believe. But they do have the errors which shouldn't have happened since he sent the corrections, but they didn't use them. Oh, well, makes for interesting collecting!

Maelin, you'll have a wonderful time collecting! Once you have all you want to collect it's rather sad to stop hunting. I've sort of started looking for the SF Magazines again, since some of mine aren't in the greatest of condition because I've missed hunting! I'm glad you're using The Guide to help expand your collection. Have fun!!!

Becky, We used your guide with the last three that we bought this last weekend. It was very easy to use, with it and the Hargreaves, we knew just what we were buying.

Thank you for writing and putting it together, for everyone to be able to use, I love my copy. I am using it, and Hans list, to help me organize all of my books, and find out just what I have, and what exactly I need t find and buy.

Maelin,

Glad that you're using the tools available to help you in your collecting. That's how you'll get the best collection you can and what you really want to collect. So take it slow and easy so you've lots of good hunting time.

Certainly not all of them I hope you understood that I meant languages that Anne's works are translated in

I speak a handful of languages and can understand another handful (when spoken slowly or in writing) if I really concentrate.

As Anne books go I now own books in:
Dutch
English
German
French
Swedish
Finnish
Czech
Italian

Thai is on order

I know Cheryl owns Russian books and I passed the only book (Pegasus) in Hungarian I ever found to Anneli as she can read it and I can't

I'm a bit of a book freak who won't admit he collects certain stuff (others call that denial...). I own dictionary or learn-yourself books concerning the following languages:

English
Dutch
Medieval Dutch
German
French
Spanish
Italian
Yugoslavian
Czech
Swahili
Russian
Arabic
Chinese
Welsh
Ancient Greek
Modern Greek
Latin
and
Modern Persian (Farsi)

and undoubtedbly I'm forgetting a few obscure ones

Yeah, I know you meant translations. Just wondered if you could read any of your own books. Think I'll just stick to my English ones.

I am amazed at the foreign language books out there that are available now. When I first started collecting there were so few available that I didn't think of even trying to collect them. I'm glad that Hans did! I've seen pictures of some of his finds and am so glad that someone has such a great collection! Glad you did it Hans! Thanks!

Becky, I'm still in the process to make an additional volume to Hargreaves but am almost losing hope

Do you realise that there's a heap more published (in editions, not necessarily new titles), as you surmise rightly a majority in foreign/non-english languages, in the period 1993-2003 than in 1953-1993 in total?!

poor you!
We haven't any of Anne's stuff in another language, but we have half a ton of french cheapy paperbacks at home-tho Mum gave some of the more innocuous and less tatty ones to school- my Grandfather used to import timber and so went to France v regulary, and brought back books. Apparantly Mum learnt her O level french this way, these were stuff like The Saint and Maigret etc.

Yes, Hans, I do know there's a lot more out there. That's why I haven't updated the Collector's Guide other than with the most recent actual new books.
Keep up the good work tho! If you need any help with data entry let me know. I'd be happy to help you out.

After reorganizing my books yesterday, I was surprised to find that I had a copy of "No one noticed the Cat", mine is of brown hard paper, with a black cloth spine. It is by ROC, and is stated it is a Frist printing, from October 1996. It says that this is an authorized reprint from the Wildside Press, book named "Nobody noticed the Cat". I think that this was just another one of those books, that was made to make even more money. I will have to see about going and finding myself a real copy of the first one. Now lets see if I can afford it

I like the three ROC versions of Anne's short fantasy tales. They're cute little books, and I think at least in one case the ROC version was issued before the Wildside Press one.

IMHO, these versions are just as collectible as the Wildside Press ones.

I have had all three of them for quite awhile, I found them in a book store, in San Diego while we were on vacation. They were new at the time so I didn't have to go and hunt them down.

I also enjoy all three of these books. They are great for a quick Anne fix. I'd like to see them expanded on too. But then I'd like to see more of all of Anne's subjects expanded.
