I ate popcorn. One of the teams won. Football is over (for what seems like a shorter amount of time each year). There is still basketball, hockey and soon there will be baseball. I am so glad there is no tv in our livingroom where I spend most of my day reading or sewing!

Exactly! We are a Formula One house. No NASCAR. My husband calls that "roundy round" (in a disdainful voice)

I like NASCAR

I keep wishing F1 will go back to using real engines and not those oversized, asthmatic sounding Coffee Crinders they're currently using.

V8 Supercars from Aussie is a great one ot watch

Inidiecar is as well

I bet NASCAR would be more interesting to watch from the stands than F1, because you can see the whole track. I used to be a pretty big F1 fan, got up in the night/very early morning to watch the Australian (and Asian) races, but then they put the live races on a pay channel, and I couldn't be bothered anymore.

NASCAR used to have 1 or 2 road course races. I liked those. Otherwise, it's "go to the end of the straight and turn left. Repeat."

Yes and, because of the one turn direction you can build asymmetrical cars to take advantage of that.

Actually they still have the two road courses at Watkins Glenn, NY and Sanoma, California. Those two and the short mile or less in length tracks are my favorites.

A long time before NASCAR was even thought of, in 1936 E.L. Cord advertised his new model Cord 810 as "the automobile built to do 70 MPH all day long". The car was revolutionary enough for that year; front wheel drive (the 1929 Cord L-29 was the first front wheel drive from Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg, possibly the first production front wheel drive in the world), retractable headlights, vacuum/electric pre-selector shifting, unit-body construction, just to name a few of the features on the car. Styling was phenomenal. When it debuted, people climbed up on the bumpers and running boards of other cars at car shows, trying to see it. Look at a 1936 Chevrolet, Ford, or even Cadillac, then look at the 810 and you'll see what I mean.

So of course, the other carmakers challenged that claim. Cord put two on the track for 24 hours, coming off the 70 MPH mark only to refuel and switch drivers Then a front hub broke on car number one in the 15th. Car number 2 finished the 24 hours It was determined that the failure was the repeated stress of constantly turning one direction, hour after hour.

For the 1937 model year, Cord offered supercharging as an option. A 1937 supercharged Cord Beverly sedan set a speed record of over 200 MPH on the Bonneville salt flats. The 810/812 Cord has been called "The most beautiful car you never heard of". I restored Cords and built parts for them for about 4 years. Of all the cars I worked on in my 15+ years of restoration work, it remains my favorite.

One track I'd like to see rebuilt completely and raced on again is Brooklands.

I'd love to see how some of today's drivers would handle the famous banked curve

Hubby liked it more before they started the race for the cup stuff.

One of the cats came in with an abase a week ago. 2 trips to vet he better.
We were left wondering who he got into a tiff With, we are no longer wondering. Methoses, showed up with large abase Monday. His is on his neck makimg it hard to make him open his mouth to shove meds down his throat. Luckily it is open and draining on its own. The joys of owning many cats

If your cat was entire, Mara, male Siamese cats will fight everything that they can't mate with. We always neutered any cats that we wanted for pets and only left our breeding cats entire when we were breeding Siamese cats.

I once had a cat named Kismet (that's a story in itself) whose mother was Blue-point Siamese and father was Himalayan. He was so small when I brought him home that I called him shoulder cat because he would sleep and ride around on my shoulder. Of course he was short haired, and he was marked like a Seal-point Siamese, but his fur was so incredibly dense that it was reversible.

Boy did he have a mouth on him. What a voice! All he had to do was sound off about any problem (like an intruder cat) and here would come his "big brother" and protector, my big yellow tabby, Boozer. Now THERE was a fighter!

Dunno if anyone here has heard this, but the Cadburys factory down in Dunedin is going belly up, and that's despite the factory being profitable and a tourist attraction with Cadbury World.

Production will now move to 'Straliya, and the word is that the taste of the famous Pineapple Lumps and Jaffas may change with the change in manufacturing location.

I've abandoned Cadburys after the takeover: they're using corn syrup and it makes the chocolate take oily.

Took my grandaughter, who wants to be a lawyer, to visit the local Crown Court only to have it closed due to the high winds from storm Doris. So we decided to go into Uni (of Birmingham) to show her the law department and new library (3.7 MILLION books!). We got as far as central Birmingham only to find that the line down to Edgbaston was closed due to the high winds from storm Doris . . .
So, we came home.

The railway folk report that around us they had about 8 trees down across the various lines, one of them got caught on the overhead electric supply and caught fire. They had a greenhouse land on the tracks at one spot!
