Default Brandywyne Ed. Moreta On Ebay

Ok.....another ebay alert! A Brandywyne signed edition of Moreta, with slipcase was listed on ebay today with a starting bid of $5.00! It doesn't really give a very good, detailed description of the books condition and while it states they are also including a copy of DLGP with it, I thought the shipping was rather high! There is a picture of it in the ad........

Good Lord! Are those great big numbers what I think they are? It must be some sort of mistake! Anyway, I really don't expect to get this but I did put a rather humble bid on it just for kicks.....the first bidder who rushed to get thier bid in is an ebay name I see quite often both as a buyer and sometimes seller.........wonder if it is any of my friends here? clb2020........JJ, if that is one of your numerous names let me know (I can keep a secret!) and I will graciously back away as I do not really need to be bidding on anything right now! Money being as it is, I really need to be selling more of my collection as everytime I turn around it's "something else".......it's so hard to resist temptations at times!!!!

(And to think, I used to be perfectly happy if I got a decent hardback of anything Anne's for $5.00 or so.......now I'm addicted to the more expensive editions that like most of us, I want but can't usually afford!)

Yes, sorry that it's in Dutch but the $225 is indeed postage to my country, which is -- needless to say -- idiotic yes, I think there must be a mistake or something but it does make for a fun picture

And Deanne, since you posted about it here, not something you/we usually do, means to me the bid is open to anybody!

Blimy! That's an expensive item to post.

I would expect a next day delivery for that.

LOL, the postage is the same for the UK - so v expensive, or I would have placed a bid on it.

I've pretty well resigned myself to the fact that it costs $20 to mail a small package to, like, NZ. But $225?? Good God.

Those postage costs are waaaaaaaay out of line. Is the seller planning to pack it with 10 pounds of bricks?

Well, let me see......DLGP is a fairly large book but would onely equal, say, about a half a brick perhaps........maybe they plan to wrap it in a dozen or so of those Tee shirts like Hans got that cost him so much...........

I've noticed this with other sellers too - this is how they get around paying eBay final value fees. They sell the item for dirt cheap, then charge what they really wanted to get for the item in postage.

I got ganked on that once - a lamp was listed for .99. I bid, then looked at shipping. $60. No way was postage $60 from that person's home to mine. (I do like the lamp, though, so...eh.)

I think eBay should put a cap on postage amounts. I mean, it's OK to charge a buck or two for handling, because hey, everyone needs to buy supplies. But not gold-plated supplies!

That is a somewhat tacky way for the seller to get the price that they want for the their item. I agree it would be good for ebay it's self to put a cap on what can be charged for shipping and such.

It'd be a hard thing for eBay to monitor, and to set clear guidelines for to determine fraud.

But the new feedback breakout goes a step in the right direction, since you can anonymously rate the seller on things like shipping charges, speed, etc.

you do see some ridiculous prices. The most expensive I've ever paid for posting an item was £9 and that was a heavy book going abroad. It costs 40p to post a book inside the UK. I can understand adding a listing fee and a few pence for packaging- or more if its a special container.

I most heartily agree Cheryl, you can rate them more fairly now with Ebay's new Star System...and they never know who or when it was done.... since it is an overall rating that accumulates over time from all their buyers. It will hopefully end up showing a more true picture of what type of seller your dealing with.

In the US we have fixed rates. NZ is $20 no matter the size of the pakage. So is Australia. Unless you want to wait for up to 8 weeks, and then it is, last I checked, $14-15. And those are the staring rates. It is 0.80+ cents for every ounce. Many times, I pay for postage than for the item in the package. Love those 90% off sales. Literally paid a total of $4.78 for 8-9 nice items, and sent them for $28 I think it was. They were worth more like $67.

I had it marked so I could bid on it - then ended up staying at the doctor's too long.

Oh well, I really can't justify that much money on a book anyway.

Congratulations, L'isa. Glad you won the auction.

Thanks, Shalyn, I know you had wanted it too. I kept looking for you and did not see you bid (or at least no name that I would have associated with you.) I figured something must have happened.

Thanks. Now I can't wait to see it.
I had told my hubby this would be my one big buy, but I did not spend as much as I thought, so maybe...

Oh, and the sun has come out to shine today.
