Default Original artwork for UK Dragonquest and Dragondrums Corgi MMPs

I don't normaly do this (promoting somebody else's eBay sale) but will in this case as it is very special. Although it would benefit the seller I suppose that for these he will not be swamped by fans and buyers.
I also advertise them here because the owner contacted me first and offered me high resolution photographs for the Pern Museum Art Gallery before the artworks go beyong is control t a new and lucky owner.

Up for sale are the original works of art for the UK Corgi mass market paperback editions of Dragonquest and Dragondrums by the British artist Steve Weston! Serious money is involved here of course and if I had the funds I would be bidding on them!
But again, to show my appreciation to Phil Warren I am posting this to draw your attention, even if it is only to drool

eBay link for Dragondrums artwork

eBay link for Dragonquest artwork

Aren't they gorgeous?

There are more pictures with the eBay auction, so do go and view those pages.

If you will be bidding I wish you good luck

Oh, my.

I have money.
I have a habit of spending serious money on art.... though I've not got close to four figures before.
I love Pern.
I love Steve Weston's dragons.

I'm struggling to find a reason not to stick in a bid... this is once in a lifetime, right?

Which would you choose, anyone, if you could afford to bid? I prefer the Dragonquest myself. No, I won't be bidding. I have never done ebay and at present don't intend to (never say never, but it's unlikely).

It would be fantastic if Kat or somebody else from here or the other board bought one of these. I think this kind of artr is pretty much secure value, so you could even see it as an investment and... the dollar is pretty low against the euro... (though it has been lower). Ah well, it is outside my funds.

If I had the choice... geez, tough ome. I love the Piemur character (in many ways close to my own, real persona ) but I think I like the Dragonquest better. Though the Dragondrums has more drama it it...

I guess I'll be buying a lottery ticket this month

I love them both, and...

JEZ HASN'T VETOED IT!

He even suggested that they shouldn't lose value, if I was worried about the cost.

I think, if I go for this... well, I have to check out if he'll ship abroad at all, 'cos if not there's no point even pondering it. And then check the fluid finances, and whether I'd rather spend Euros or Pounds... and then... who knows?

Good luck Kath!!!

I so wish I had money to spend like that… but those paintings as GORGEOUS as they are, are WAY WAY WAY too expensive for me.

However… if I had the money and could choose one I would buy the Dragonquest because the color is stunning!!!

The auctions end pretty close together, and at a bad time of day for me... IF I go for this, I'd be willing to try my max bid on the first as late in the day as I can, then if outbid on that go in for the second... but I've still got a lot of thinking to do. Do I think the price is okay, what would I go up to, how would the shipping work out, would the shipping work out full stop, how many chickens can I get out of these-here unhatched eggs, do I have enough wall-space left in the house...

Heh.

P'ter, I'm way past thinking twice at this stage - well into the double figures by now!

As things stand, I'm going to watch them closely and see if any other bids go in. No decisions will be made in haste, and I'm not going to spend what I consider stupid money - and I've yet to decide if the base-price is less than my stupid-money ceiling anyway. Lots to think about still, lots and lots. For me, I'm giving it serious consideration, which means I don't know which way I'll decide at all yet!

Once or twice before there has been some original Pern artwork for sale on eBay around this price point. It didn't sell.

That may have been because it wasn't the prettiest Pern art (the one I recall definitely was this old UK DF print), but I suspect few collectors haunting eBay have the funds at that level.

At any rate, I suspect you have a very good chance.

I'm still in two minds over spending that much money full stop. For a piece of that size, by an unknown artist, I'd expect something in the £500-1000 bracket. This... well it's just under 2000 in euros, thanks to the great exchange rate right now, which doesn't seem disproportionate, but it would still be quite a step up for me! Anyway, my mum buys lots of art (okay, for values of 'lots' equalling every once in a while - usually local Cornish artists like Bryan Pearce), and she's visiting us tomorrow, so I'll get her opinion on them soon!

Kath, I heard that someone recently sold a Higgs Boson on ebay. It consisted of a matchbox containing a Higgs Boson and a certificate of autheticity (with no returns for the buyer of course). It's surprising enough that someone tried so sell one, and even more surprising that someone actually bought it for £20 plus postage. So to recoup the cost of one of these works of art you need to find about 50 empty matchboxes containing 50 various fundamental particles... You could offer a discount on the more basic ones - e.g. 5 billion electrons for the price of one.

But on a more serious note, good luck! Fingers crossed you get the one you are hoping for. Those are really stunning works of art.

Rats!

Having asked about shipping to Europe and found that it would be okay and the cost wasn't extortionate, yesterday I had a sudden windfall... a sign! It has to be a sign!

And then I try placing a bid, and find out that even though the seller will ship worldwide, the auction is set to US-only and won't accept anything in the way of bids from a non-US e-bayer.

Gaaaaaaaah.

Go for it Kath! Fingers crossed that your bid is successful.

A word of warning, though. If the artwork is shipped overseas do you need to consider tax and import duty? (Lanen and I have been unpleasantly surprised ordering things overseas; or at one point simply receiving wedding gifts shipped from overseas. )

I looked it up by Googling: VAT payable when importing a work of art is 5% in the UK and 7% in Germany. (Our wedding gifts were taxed at 27.5%, so not so bad.)

Still keeping my fingers crossed. It's hard to type like this, though.

I've checked the EU TARIC pages, and it looks exempt - it's not something that could have been bought within the EU, so we're not doing any local businesses out of business!

Of course, as things stand it may all be academic, and I'll end up binge-spending on some Lia Melia instead...
