Default Some French AMC buyers are just as nuts as the Germans

I have said on a few occasion that I don't know why the Germans pay so much for mass market paperbacks of The Dolphins of Pern and The Renegades of Pern (in their own languages). These regular mmp's fetch prices up to 50-60 euro's (77-90 dollars)! Is that nuts or not?

However, the German AMC lovers (they must be) are now well and truly beaten by the French. I still need the rench books published after The Dolphin's of Pern. This week I saw a copy offered of The masterharper of Pern. Styartig bid was 6,50 euro ($10) and with 15 euro postage to my country I thought that wasn't cheap...
I just looked and the price stands at $74,50 ($115)... for a regular, unsigned, second hand trade paperback!

I think my fellow Europeans are crazy or earning far too much money...

For the curious among you, here's the eBay link

That's insane. I'd never pay that much for a book.

I don't buy much from Amazon due to lack of information regarding the condition of a book. And the few I've emailed asking for more info have ignored me, so I generally don't buy from Amazon. I like to know what I'm getting for my $$$.

That is crazy. Are the books just that darned rare, too small a printing run of them made?

There's even an amazon.fr!

But for the German's I'll have to say that the books are out of print, not sure about the Maitre Harpiste.

I recently bought a copy of 'Le Vol du Dragon' (3rd print) in darn good condition for less than €10.

I'm now wading slowly through it reading my English copy in parallel.

More power to you. There was a time I could make out some Spanish that way.

It's funny I can understand the written format better then the spoken version. Maybe it's because people speak so fast and I can read faster in opposition to the spoken word *shrugs shoulders*. That's mainly from spending 8 years of prime time life overseas, when I was a kid.

My favorite phrase (in any 'foreign' language) is "please speak slowly". This even goes for some English dialects.

The French book went for $81 euro ex postage yesterday. That's $126,22

The German Dolphins went for a mere 61 euro ($95). Not bad for a regular mass market paperback eh?
