The first picture was taken through an aeroplane window, which often does nothing for the shot, on the contrary. This is a moderate zoom (55mm) of the cloud cover over France on my way to Barcelona, Spain. I was amazed at the high "cotton peeling feeling" of the cloud cover that day.

The second picture doesn't show much clouds but it's a photo with a story. It was taken from the 110th (observatory) floor of the Empire State building in New York. It was one of the things I had to do at least once in my life: standing on top of the Empire State building. Unfortunately, when I first stood there, I was standing in the low hanging clouds over Manhattan In itself that was something special too but, of course, I would have rather had spectacular views to all sides. Then, all of a sudden the wind blew open the cloud cover and we were able to look down (all the rest was still white). It must have happen many times but it felt pretty special at the time

Nothing spectacular, but I have a nice wideangle shot of some clouds on the way home from Manchester a few weeks back. I love the shape.

I have very few cloud pictures that aren't part of a sunset, so... Both my west view.

Hans, Lanen and I have been on top of the Empire State Building surrounded by clouds as well, although on our occasion there was a blizzard and a complete white out.

My first picture shows the view Lanen and I had from Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the UK mainland. That thunderstorm is attacking Orkney, where we were about to set out on a ferry. Luckily, two hours later the storm was gone and we had a dead calm crossing.

Hmmm, this next picture isn't in the same league as the amazing sunset pictures just posted by Jube and Pam (wow ), but it's a sunset picture over Tranent a few years ago; one of the last pictures I took with my old camera:

I'll tell you a secret, StevenB. Some of the most gorgeous scenes, is when I go to and from work. My picture was of a morning when I came home and the sky was all lit up that it prompted me to take a photo or 2 of it. Hence the subject I came up with. That's one of many I've seen over the last 15 years since I've moved to the area I live in now. I feel very privileged at times, looking at those type of skies.

I like Pam's too - the sky's on fire. That's the kind of photo which would really impress a workmate who makes cards with photos on them. She would be like "WOW" too! Think everyone's picture has a different story to it though. Makes you think how Mother Nature can really put on a good show when she wants to.

I check the sunset every day from Sept to March because at least once a week, regularly more often, I get a really good one. We're just set up for them right.

I don't feel too bad about my sunset picture now. Really good clear sunsets don't happen as often here.

Pam, you should enter your second photo into a competition. It's absolutely stunning, and I bet it would make a good poster. In which of your four corner states was that picture taken in? If you took it in Arizona you could enter it into the Arizona Highways competition like Weyrlady.

Oops. We've started the discussion too early. (Do you think anyone else noticed? )

It's in Colorado, since that's where my house is. It's already been in one competition, a Colorado Skies one, and it didn't place at all. Oh well

StevenB, people are still free to post photos. I've noticed in some threads, there's a discussion halfway through the thread before someone adds new photos to it. So don't stress too much.

We (that would be blondmom (who's my mom) and I) think the cloud in that picture looks like a dragon.

It looks to me like someone wrote their signature (JrE) on the sky. It could also be a flying elephant. Amazing.

Yes I also think it's a chinese dragon. But now that someone's pointed out the Jr E I can definitely see it or how about Godzilla eating two giant carp.

Just the clouds going bonkers Jube.

In reality it's what the upcurrents over the coastal hills do to the clouds when they first hit land.

Peter, your photos disappeared!

I'm finally getting caught up on adding photos!

It wasn't quite as ominous as it looks in this photo, but this was a very distinct stormfront rolling in overhead.

I love clouds from above.

Nothing wrong with going back to an old theme. I don't see any people, but I do see dinosaurs
