Default New language in Hans' Pern Collection

Yes! I have been able to add the 16th language to my Pern Book Collection: Turkish.

As some of you might know I recently traveled around Turkey for two weeks and I am now enjoying the last few days of my vacation. The extra days are very needed to recuperate from an extremely busy two weeks in which we traveled more than 3.500 km/2.175 miles. For the interested among you, we started at Anthalya (south coast) and went to the inland highlands of Cappadocia via Konya. From there to Ankara (mid Turkey) and Istanbul (north), crossed to the European part, traveled west, ferried back into Asia and started following the west coast with the classic cities of Troy, Pergamom, Efese and Hierapolis. Visiting other sights like the chalk terasses of Pamukkale, Izmir and Denizli. On one of the last days we visited Demre, better know as Myra, the original bisshop's city of Saint Nicolas after whom the Coca Cola company modelled Santa Claus. Some pictures will follow later in te appropriate forum.

I must have visited about 12 Turkish bookstores in total but was only successful in Istanbul (which is not surprising as it is the biggest city in Turkey with its 15 million inhabitants). But even there I was only able to obtain obe book: the Turkish edition of Dragonflight, published ten years ago in 1999. I found out that the Anne McCaffrey books in Turkish are already out of print

I was glad anyway though, to have found this particular title. There are only four books translated and if I could have chosen one it would have been Dragonflight of course

Books were not as cheap as I would have expected them to be in Turkey. This one cost 20 lira, which is about 10 euro and thus about $ 14.50 for a paperback! It is published by Ithaka and translated by Ferhan Ertürk. ISBN is 975-6902-04-3. The cover isn't spectacular but it is unique to the edition.

Very nice addition to the collection, Hans!
The first thing that popped into my head when I read it was DF was that would be the one I'd like to find, then read that same thing from you a moment later.
Glad you had a wonderful trip and capped it of with an Anne book!

Woo hoo, another "book on the wall" - well I was going to say "brick on the wall" but that would be cheeky of me wouldn't it?

However, all facetiousness aside, it's still a nice find and something that we can go looking for. Wondering if you'd be able to find the other books on the Turkish equivalent of ebay?

Fantastic find Hans...and the cover is a lot better looking than some you've found for your collection. Hopefully you'll be able to add the other three to your collection in the future. Glad to hear that you both had such a lovely adventure.

Actually I had in the back of my mind that you'd be on the ball already and that was when you were already in Turkey BUT... I just didn't know which book you'd find whilst there. You're more avid then I am

I actually kinda like the cover. It may not really be a 'Pernese' dragon, but I like the style all the same. -Chuckles- Congrats on the find!

Come to look at it again: it does look more like a wyvern.
