Oh, wow. I'm not sure how to feel. Is this actually gonna be a post-Thread novel? I might be willing to give it a shot if that's the case; to see what Pern's aging heroes are up to, and how everyone is coping.

Kind of a long wait until October, And pricey. I want it now. I pre-ordered it so to get it As soon as possible. Also am very interested in how she writes. Hope it is somewhat like her mother.

Yes, I read it. I am thinking it is just as it says, " threaten to result " But if this does come to pass, it would be the true end of PERN. At least for me.

Todd more or less spoiled Pern for me.
I'll stick with Anne's stories, thank you.

The books Todd wrote of PERN were bad, I am rather glad he has not written any more. Many of the Fan fic I have read were much better. But I will read this effort by Anne's Daughter with an open mind, Hopefully she will not put the final nail in the coffin.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the description. These book-cover blurbs usually get half the facts wrong.

It will be interesting to see how Pern society has developed over however many years have passed. I wonder if Toric is involved. I'll read it. I need closure.

I understood that Todd and Gigi could and would both write Pern but not in the Ninth Pass, so our familiar characters won't be involved.

That was the reason Todd went Third Pass.

I sure as hell hope it isn't a new take on Anne's latest unpublished manuscript "After de Fall"...

Yeah, not sure how to take the description--it almost sounds like it would be contemporaneous with the events of the The White Dragon which would be a tad weird. I'm willing to give her a shot though--she seemed to be pretty involved in helping Anne write the later books, like Skies of Pern.

Yes, we want to know what happens next.

And as I've said before (a few times), the history of the First Long Interval, and how they got back on track afterwards, would be an interesting read.

Did this ever circulate about? All i've heard is "no... it was not worth seeing." but I've been morbidly curious for years...

No, the idea and manuscript never circulated as far as I know. Ten years ago Anne talked about the manuscript with some fans.
All I will say about it is that it brought Terra and Pern in contact with each other again, which I personally didn't like and I certainly didn't like the plot that was the basis for re-establishing contact. I hope the manuscript was scratched and shredded.

While I would liked to have read Anne's last installment of PERN, I don think I would have liked a reconnecting of PERN and Earth, the few fan fics I have read that had this as their plot made me think that in just about every way I could think of. PERN was much better off without the baggage they left behind on Earth. They ( Anne ) created a new world in which to live.

Re Anne's last instalment (After the Fall);

Since something like 2500 years have also passed on Earth and its colonies (and probably a whole lot more colonies added since Pern was settled), it won't be the same baggage at all.

I'd guess that the FSP has simply been spreading in the general direction of Pern over the centuries. Somebody may have dug up the report of the Amherst (Rescue Run) and come up with a method of destroying Thread at the source; then someone turns up with a load of terra-forming equipment to make the "dead planet" inhabitable again. Too late, the Pernese already fixed the problem --- unless it didn't stay fixed.

Come to think of it --- disgruntled holders, dragons fighting dragons, an exiled clan --- could this BE the history of the First Long Interval?
