Right, of course I had a multitude of photographs that could answer to the theme 'purple' that I took either in my wife's lovely garden or in gardens we visited elsewhere in Europe. I more or less forced myself to think out of the box though and chose two less 'obvious' pictures.

The first one I took when I was visiting Anne and traveling around Ireland in 2006. I took the picture at Powerscourt House, well, in the vast stretch of land they call a garden there. I dont actually know why the water of this waterfall looks purple. I certainly did nothing to this pic with photoshop or any other way. Maybe it's a combination of light, lighting and what grows in the immediate surroundings, I don't know. But I liked the contrast between the green and the purple. Should I photoshop this I would definitely make the green more intesive and get rid of the plant at top right. With some lighting effect it would be a good surreal/alien photo

The second photograph is younger by two years and taken last year when I visited Lanen and StevenB in Scotland. After visiting Stirling Castle we also went to the nearby church of the Holy Rude, where James VI was crowned king in 1567. It's a rather austere but beautiful and interesting church and the window appealed to me jst because of the unusual colour combination. The stained glass windows are not really old, I seem to remember they're from the fifties of the last century.

In the same church I also had a chuckle. There a placque in the church that reads: "Near this place are deposited the remains of a brave soldier and devout christian John Blackader." And here I was, a professional genealogist, thinking that Rowan Atkinson had made up the family name and never even thought to check whether it ould be a real one. Silly me.
If you want to see the placque, here's a link to it in my Flickr set with graves, graveyards and tombs.

This is a prize, I won at our local market (they have a raffle to raise funds for the Australia Day weekend so they can provide entertainment etc) and it'll be a birthday gift for my nan because she likes purple (however the jewellery part of it, I'll give to a child who is also having a birthday this month):

The next 2 photos are from my garden:
