Signed Dragonsdawn HC - imho a forgery - A Meeting of Minds

In my everlasting search I came acoss a signed hardcover of Dragonsdawn listed on eBay as a shop item. Now Dragonsdawn US hardcovers are offered often but a signed copy for $9.99 may be considered cheap.

It is listed as: Anne McCaffery's " Dragonsdawn " 1st Ed , Signed

OK, a spelling error in Anne's name, not a big deal. Except... when you look at the offered picture of the title page with "Anne's" signature it looks a bit "woody" even that could be overlooked (if the book was one that Anne signed recently) but like with the title in which the seller wrote Anne's name wrong I think the book itself is also signed wrong because I clearly read: Anne McCaffery

Honesty bids me to say that it is altogether possible that it was not the seller who did this as he can have bought it in this state himself. However, it doesn't change my opinion of the book.

What do you think about this and... should the seller be told about this?

I don't own any signed books, but from the pictures that I have seen- that doesn't even resemble Anne's signature.

Tell him. If he knows, it's his fault, if he doesn't, I guess that he needs to know.

I would also say that is not Anne's signature. The last name is clearly spelled incorrectly, and to me the "nne" of Anne is not quite right and the first "M" in McCaffrey is quite wrong.

Like Edith I would tell the seller. If they don't know they should be informed so as to not perpetuate a "hoax". Heck, at the price the seller is asking it shouldn't be any skin of their nose to sell it at it's proper unsigned value.... Some poor soul would buy it otherwise and live thinking they had a peice of Anne, when in truth they don't. (I should know as I bought a fake autograph myself....then people here introduced me to Tom Folio!! - thanks again for that!! - )

Contact the seller, and if the seller doesn't take proper measures to change the listing, contact ebay -- I'm sure they have a way to turn in fraudulent listings.

I agree that it's not Anne's signature. It's highly doubtful that she'd forget how to spell her own name and her hand has written it so many times that she's got muscle memory that kicks in and does it without even thinking. Yep, contact that seller and advise that it's not a valid signature.

This is sooo terrible

... and so sad, Lord Anne signs all but everything that shes asked to.

I have a few very dodgie signatures of Anne's, that I got from her in person myself. She was tired, sick and had signed probably a few hundred books already before mine, but even in that state she still remembered how to spell her own name. The handwriting was truely shaky and shows a bit of her condition at the time...but you could still tell that it was her handwriting.

In my opinion this is very definintely a fake...and probably not a from a fan of hers either as they at least would remember

I would send the seller a note...and like Cheryl said perhaps mention it to E-bay if you don't hear anything back.

The auction has been ended due to an error in the listing.

I certainly wouldn't send any of this type of thing to Anne. After all - on eBay especially it's pretty much a 'buyer beware' deal.

I certainly did. I asked, as a "question" to the seller, why Anne would spell her signature wrong, and then I reported it as fraudulent to ebay. I didn't see any reason to wait around.
