Right, time for a new one and I don't think this is a particularly hard one. Names of both the lake and the dam please, the placename is a bonus

That kind of reminds me of one I've visited in the States, but the background scenery looks wrong, and I can't figure out whether the recognisable architecture has been trimmed off the picture or simply isn't there!

It looks very dry and arid so I am guessing middle east.

Yeah, Hoover Dam was what I was thinking of too... but the background hills don't look quite right to me.

Hans?

Well, that means the Lake Powell part is correct, yes?

[And Google confirms it]

Its the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Been there and basically have the same photo

Hoover Dam created Lake Mead, and while they both hold back the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon separate them.

Interesting fact: John Wesley Powell, who the lake is named after, would probably cry if he knew they had flooded what he thought of as one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I was afraid I had the wrong Dam, we use to go up on lake Powel boating, and water skiing a long time ago. Close but no cigar!!!

Yup, Anne Marie. I knew this wasn't a hard one as there aren't that many dams like that across the world.

Hey, Maelin. When I was there in May of 1982 the water was too cold to waterski but I did go white water rafting on the Colorado river and also further south in New Mexico! That was great fun, a real adventure.

You had 50% of the answer and Pam gave the other half with the name Glen Canyon Dam So you'll have to share your honour points

Hans thats really wierd. I was at Lake Powell in 1982 - September - and that was the trip when I met my Australian and Dutch friends. Or maybe its not so wierd and we're just the same age group

The small bridge onto the dam is all wrong and there are no intake towers...

That's a coincidence indeed even if I was there half a year before you.

It's a small word after all...

It is colder at some parts of the year than others, and in those days we were much braver with the cold, and with the outdoor activities.

We use to go to the Colorado River for most of the family vacation jaunts. We would camp out up on Lake Havasu, and go skiing on the calmer lake waters. We walked on the "London Bridge" there too. Martin walked on it in England also, before it was taken down and shipped piece by piece to Havasu.

KC and Hans, makes you want to look around at the people that you are around, to see if anyone you know is there... you never know it might be a friend from far away
