This isn't going to be your average river shot. They are replacing the bridge near my home.

First is a shot from 2004: the Regnitz river at Bamberg in (former East) Germany.

Second a new shot of two weeks ago: "Still in love after 35 years", me and my wife on a boat trip on the Bosporus, Istanbul, Turkey (september 6, 2009) with the famous Bosporus bridge in the background, built in 1973, 1 mile long and 65 meters/213 feet over the water, the 13th largest bridge in the world and the biggest suspension bridge outside the USA. It connects Asia with Europe. And for this special occasion I wore my MoM Anne McCaffrey tshirt (taken by one of our fellow travelers but with my camera)

Two entirely different river pictures...

The first is the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon , taken when Lanen and I were hiking out last year in the early hours of the morning. We had just crossed over the silver bridge (the one closest to the camera).

The second is the Falls of Dochart at Killin in Scotland. It's the River Tay.

One of the experimental images I took in 2007 to try out my (then) brand new fish-eye lens.

This is a ferry on the River Severn. It is powered by the river current. There's a cable across the river and the ferry slides along it when the ferryman holds the rudder at the correct angle. Thanks to this ferry there is a very local road sign ...

Once again, I'm pulling out a photo from my trip to Quebec City from this past May. We were at the top of a very tall tower looking out over the entire city when I took both of these photos.

much nicer view of the Hudson. Ceryl, KC and Anneli will recognise it, since they were with me when I took it.

Define "Near" the Egg, Bob. The Egg and the Empire State Plaza is actually about ten blocks from the river front...and further from the point I took this picture at. We were standing near the Hudson River Walkway, which is a pedestrian bridge between the city's business district and the Riverfront Park,

The first is the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Not nearly as wide as it is at the other end.

This one is the Farmington River in Connecticut. In high school I spent many a morning rowing on it in the mist.

Nope, since I don't think there are actually any pictures of it anywhere.

OK, you all know that sometimes the photoshopghost grabs me and I dare not resist... So I dug into the MoM Family Album and found this old photograph of a very young Pam on a misty Farmington river...

Rowing in the mist eh? I've a few memories of doing that. Back in the days when I lived in a boat on the Thames at Reading.

I suppose that qualifies as "near". I haven't been there since 1989.

Technically not a river, this is Paddy Creek, in the rain, yesterday.

It's in Mark Twain National Forest, Texas County, Missouri. Not too far from where I live.

This shot of the St. Louis Gateway Arch was taken on my old Sony Mavica CD camera, all 2.1 Mp of it.

Ours is 630 feet high and 630 feet wide at the base, made of brush-finish stainless steel.
