Default A poem about being different

Different

Just because I'm different
And hear a different song
Or march to an odd drummer
Doesn't mean I'm wrong

Just because I'm different
And I don't dress the same
Or have a different opinion
Doesn't mean I'm to blame

Just because I'm different
And don't work from 9 to 5
or earn an annual wage
Doesn't mean I'm on the skive

Just because I'm different
Not part of the common crowd
Just because I'm not like you
Doesn't mean that I'm not proud.

All 5 of my kids were picked on (well bullied to be honest) during their school years so I know what it's like to be the adult in that situation and can understand you wanting to boost her self esteem - go for it.
As long as my name stays on the poem I have no objections to you using it anywhere you please

I believe everyone goes through that sort of thing in some manner or other. I know that I was the school nerd, and the butt of many jokes. I have long since forgiven them their poor behaviour, besides, they are all bald and stressed out by the dull and repressive consumer driven lives that they are trying to eck out for themselves or their families. I on the other hand love what I do.

My wife and I chose early on to homeschool our children, we didn't feel that the current state of school systems in the US were adequate or even safe as a learning environment. It is very difficult to learn on an individual level when everything is designed to teach the "masses" Standardized tests are an abomination and are very insulting to those who have individualistic minds who may need special attention in certain subjects.

Most of our students are inhibited by the environments in which they are supposedly learning....schools have become not a breeding ground for curiosity and a deep love of knowledge.....but instead have fostered anxiety and fear, competition and politics, a love of sports over knowledge, and all designed so that the local school systems can gain $ 5000.00 a year to keep a student in those seats.

Ilona thats a lovely poem, I will also share it with my children.

Rantingly yours,

MMV

I hope you don't mind me sticking a copy of this on my school diary. I can relate to it so much because I'm often picked on at school for being smarter and more creative than the others and "going against the crowd."

It means a lot to me ilona.
