Default Recently received Italian 6th Pass hardcovers

Some of you may know them, Moreta and Nerika with those peculiar covers (ah well; so the French are not alone...)
They weren't particularly cheap but in excellent condition with Nerika's Story actually still in original shrink wrap!
They are both first editions, the Moreta from December 1984, translated by Gianluigi Zuddas with cover art by Peter Jones and the Nerilka from October 1987, translated by Maria Teresa Tenore and cover art by the great Chris Achilleos; ISBN 88-347-0165-8 and 88-347-0033-3 respectively.

Here's some pics:

I love those covers. They're just so... totally unrelated to the books.

Yeah, I especially love Chris Achilleos' work; he's right up here with guys like Boris Vallejo as master of some special, high quality, often erotic fantasy artwork and bookcovers!

His work (The Sentinel) was also used on the younger of the two Sphere paperback UK editons of Dragonquest.

So... how crazy was the sum you had to fork out to get these?

Leaving aside the artwork (!), do you think they ever learned to spell Anne's name correctly on other editions?

Yes, Anneli, they did correct that and her name is correctly spelled on later editions

Must say, I do like the books where they misspell her name and of course that paperback with Anne's "Weird Search"

Interesting additions, Hans. I always wonder what the people who bought books like that thought they were getting. Were they disappointed or thrilled? Or are they, as are we in the US, accustomed to book covers that have little or nothing to do with the books?

I guess they are accustomed to covers not necessarily depicting naything appearing in the book, Sandi. What we call "flap text" is much, much more important although I DO appreciate it if a cover is correct in presenting a scene, the essence or merely the mood of the book

Hans, Love the bull...and those...erm... beautiful horns on the lady rider...to bad it doesn't have anything to do with the story...but the art work is fantastic.

More wonderful finds Hans! Congrats! Everything that could be said about the art has been said so I won't add more.

Congrats Hans!

I'm fond of those covers too, for their complete unrelatedness and general bizarre depictions. Especially the warrior on the bull!
