Cool Pern Poetry in Italian

I recently received the first Pern book in Italian for my ever growing collection. It's Dragonsinger (La Ballata del Drago) and, like its counterpart in other languages the first chapter begins with the Fire Lizard song.

The little queen all golden = La piccola regina tutta d'oro
Just because Italian is such a beautiful language I';; reproduce the complete song here (actually because the Italian forum still isn't open and I'm not good enough at that language to moderate it).

La piccola regina tutta d'oro
si lanciò sibilando contro il mare
Per arretare ogni onda,
per salvare le uova
si avventurò con coraggio

Mentre attaccava il mare
un uomo sopraggiunse
sulla spiaggia sabbiosa
con una rete in mamo
e vide la regina in mezzo al cielo

La fissò sbalordito
perché spesso aveva sentito
che non poteva esistere
una come lei
librata lassù, aurea

La vide nel periglio e prontamente
levò gli occhi agli sogli
e vide la caverna
sopra l'onde
e vi pose le uova

La piccola regina tutta d'ora
si posò sulla spalla
e gli occhi tutti azzurri
btillarono d'immensa
eterna gratitudine

Isn't that beautiful?

Re: Pern Poetry in Italian

Tanta carina, la canzonetta, Hans!

By the way, I posted something in the French forum days ago, but it's never appeared - and was going to post in the Italian one, but it's not open.
I have Il volo del drago, and Il drago bianco in Italian, and have much enjoyed reading them, as well as a few of the other books in French. I still prefer them in English, but it's interesting to read translations as well; the books have a different "feel", and it sometimes gives a new slant on characters.

Molto grazie, dear Lara! The language fora don't seem to be open to unregistered people but I could change that. However, I'd much rather you registered and spread the word.

I'll see if your post there is somewhere in a qeue or was lost.

Please register! It would be wonderful if those language fora got a life of their own (h)

And the Italian Forum is indeed still closed as I haven't located a native speaker a moderator for it
We also like to set more of them, especially pertaining the languages, Russian and Polish, that Anne is heavily translated in.

Lara, your post (and someone else's for the Dutch forum) were indeed placed in a moderation queu. That's silly as moderation is NOT on for those fora and even as an unregistered user you should be able to post there!

I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Thanks for the heads up

Oh, that is lovely, Hans. I can figure out some of the words, but my Italian isn't worth much. I know several words, not enough for more than one or two word sentences.

Accidenti! Avevo dimenticato di essermi iscritta al forum! Che stupida!
Well, that makes me feel very silly ... but I've done stupider things, and no doubt will do again!

It's not active yet, Bertrand, because I don't speak that langauge well enough to moderate it myself and because we haven't met a native speaker whom we would like to ask to do that.

We preefrably want native speakers, that's why we asked our friend Golder/Florian to moderate the French forum.

Thanks for the translation Hans!

When I try to read it, I start hearing an Italian opera singer belting out the words!

Speaking of which (the Italian opera singer)...

I think a lot of Anne's sings will have an operatic ring or sound because she loves opera herself so much

I don't know about opera - more like a gentle folk-song! It's extremely faithful to the original, especially the first verse, which translates almost word for word - allowing for inevitable variation in word-order, of course.

Madonna! Con la precedente, non sono più "Darbul" - sono diventata subbito "preda dei fili"! Soccorso!
