Well I've had the brain scan done (went to sleep in the scanner) and ECG (it's still beating with just an occasional ectopic) AND blood samples (I've got some left). I'll get the real results end of May when I see THAT consultant.

The bloods are also wanted by a different consultant for a different clinic in mid-May.

But I'm still waiting for an appointment for the osteoporosis check. The NHS still doesn't admit that men get it.

Do they also fail to acknowledge that men can get breast cancer?

And here you got me thinking of going to the blood bank on Friday. I'm suppose to go in at 9.10am and it's a "45 minute" drive there, junior has to be at school by 9am and umm...yep, that'll be fun and games It's okay, it'll work out. Still that's good news on trying to work out all your health problems and having them all fixed up.

And now you've got us counting too

As for the breast cancer bit, I think it's because "us girls" get on the bandwagon and make some noise about it but the poor guys get left out. I'm wondering if it's because the females "talk too much" about these things where-as guys just go "yep whatever". Sorry guys if I'm nit-picking but it is worth checking out!

Could be worse, we could have brought up the subject of ovarian v's testicular cancer - some do get embarrassed about these things....

I'm not so much looking forward to your surgery as to the time when you can move more freely and without pain. When you reach that point all the rest of this will have been worthwhile.

I think that the female half of the species is far more group orientated. Virtually every female condition has a support/pressure group. You try and find a local support group for prostate or testicular cancer.

Which is probably a good thing that it came up in "conversation" here on MoM, P'ter- at least for the male half of the species as one can talk about it and have the support, one needs if it does crop up. If it's one thing I've noticed about our darling males, at times, they like to clam up when it's anything health related. Scary but true.

Then again, I went looking for "male support groups" in my local area, just to see if that was the case and there's not many compared to the girly stuff. I'll probably get shot for saying this but the female half tends to talk about "stuff" more then the male half does.

A friend of hubby dearest had to go into hospital for bowel cancer and at the time he didn't particularly want anyone to come visit. We had to go into "town" to do some stuff so hubby said "stuff it, we're going to make sure he's okay". Afterwards, his mate said it was one of the best things we did as he needed a chat and a friendly face, other then doctors or nurses, at the time. He felt slightly depressed that day so when we walked in, it was like "okay, I'll accept a visit in good grace".

It's not just the support groups we're not at; we don't seem to be able to organise the pressure groups to twist the arms of the politicians into giving us a better deal.

I must admit one of my problems is that I recognise that the mortaility rate must add up 100%. Every time they announce a miracle cure that will save 20,00 lives a year from death by *****, that means that all the other causes of death HAVE to go up to compensate.

So true, P'ter.

Nothing against the male half of the species but if they want to keep their heads in the ground and ignore all possibilities, this is what happens. Loss of peer support groups that are unable to twist the pollie's arms so that the item in question is ignored or lost under mountains of red tape etc.... At least Sokar is making us all aware that it can happen to males as much as it does to the female half of the equation. I say "Good on-ya for doing so". By the way, hope the operation goes well and that recovery is swift...
