Exclamation FYI on post counts

I've just archived a large set of posts from the Cafe; posts that are in the Cafe Archives do not count towards your post count (as they don't from a couple other forums), therefore people will likely find their count has dropped if they check on such things.

Me either. I don't even know exactly where I was, but I don't think I lost as many as you, edi!

Not that I care all that much about post counts, but why can't archived posts count? They're still accessible after all. I do understand that if a thread is deleted completely posts will disappear.

The majority of my posts are in the café as well...

They could obviously, t'was a decision made by us cruel staff folks....

Nah, it wasn't done to be cruel, and there is a bit of logic behind it. Because the focus of MoM is meant to be more on book discussions rather than general community chatter, we're shifting the bulk of post counts more towards book posts. But not completely to book posts, because we do recognize the importantance of the Cafe discussions to the feeling of community that we have here on MoM.

Point taken, Cheryl. Seems to me the book fora have been rather quiet lately, though.

I don't mind losing the few I did (1700 is a few, I admit ) but I shall claw my way back up to First Speaker, I shall.

Mind you, I have been quiet lately, and have been having a hard time being my fortunately chatty self.

Quite true Cheryl, but I just wonder if there was some way to maintain the Post Count while archiving the old Threads/Posts.

Just curious, considering that when AMCF started, the Hosties there were able to carry our Post Counts from the OKTBB into AMCF.

Oh sure, it can be done. It's just a question of whether or not an update counters script is run, which we specifically did choose to run (and on the original KT, was run by accident a few times). As long as that script isn't run, post counts can be maintained.

Kugai, as erstwhile tech admin and keeper of all old KT forum files, documents etc. I ported all post counts over to AMCF if people asked for them.

On OKT and AMCF we never intentionally ran the update counters script (well... ober of the hosties did twice... but by accident! )
Since we don't want to discourage the general feeling that post counts don't matter on MoM we never took any measures to keep the postcounts as they are. You must have noticed we chose to not even display them on the forum pages

Ok Cheryl & Hans, I was just curious. Be nice to keep the same Post Count but I'm not too fussed about it,
