Default Pictures of The Keukenhof (Dutch Tulip & Flower exhibition)

Every year, this year for the 60th time!, the "Keukenhof" opens from early April to the end of May. Keukenhof means Kitchencourt and it is so called because Jacoba of Bavaria had her/a garden here with kitchen vegetables and herbs, many, many times smaller than the current Keukenhof. In this park of 32 hectares (almost 80 acres) you can easily get lost!

For those of you interested enough, click here for a map.

Today I visited the Keukenhof with my wife and here's a selection of a few of the many hundreds of photographs I took:

Thanks for sharing your photos with us Hans.
Keukenhof is absolutely amazing, and I was regretting not having time to go see it this year; so it's a delight to be able to almost visit through your photos.

Thumbs up Re: Pictures of The Keukenhof (Dutch Tulip & Flower exhibition)

Hans lovely images, from what I can make out. I like the windmill, it reminds me of one I saw in a book, that we have around here somewhere.

I hope you and your wife enjoy the show.
I know a few other non-AMC who like to look at flowers too.

Reminds me of having gone to Floriade in Canberra but yours is more extensive then what I saw and that was nearby to me (Please see Where in the world thread as I put a photo there) Thanks for the wonderful views of a place I've never been to before! It makes the world a little closer to one's own backyard!

OK, Hans, we are now desperately jealous and more determined than ever to come over and see it in person! We have decided to plan it definitely for next year, if that's convenient for you. The only weekend I really really can't come is my contest weekend, and I'll find out that date this coming weekend. Steven can put in for holiday so they (probably) can't send him away at just the wrong time! He's just back from Marseille this week, and in fact flew in to Schipol airport for a change of flight, but it was all clouded in, rats!

Fabulous photos, so very vivid and enticing! And I love the fact that the first display you saw included our 'what on earth?' plant! It looks like it was a splendid day out, good for you and Marjon for making the most of it. We're well jealous (in a good way!), and really appreciate the photos!

It was indeed a splendid day out and biy did my feet ache at the end of the day!

The Keukenhof is indeed very special and a display case for all majpr bulb producers of my country, that's why it is so spectacular, they all want to show their best and they actually have contests among each other. So you can imagine things have really high wow factor

OH WOW....Hans you have out done yourself with this incredible group of photos....good thing you bought your lovely new camera this year. I will have to agree with Lanen, and say that we are also majorly jealous in the very best of ways. I am so happy for you that the day was so lovely for you and Marjon to enjoy together. Looks like half of The Netherlands was there enjoying the beauty with you.

Hans...Keukenhof has to be one of the most beautiful places on this earth, so yes I can easily believe that they were being visited by so many tourist, from so many different countries...I know I would love to visit there someday too...just like so many others here, who've enjoyed getting to see your lovely photos.

P.S. Sandi...I think I would feel like you...once you actually there looking at all that beauty...you'd never want to leave.

Thanks Hans. Can you let us know next year's dates, and I'll do my best to keep some free time (although planning a holiday way in advance doesn't necessarily stop me being sent somewhere else at the same time , but it helps).

How far is Keukenhof from Amsterdam? I had to change at Schipol on the way out to Marseille last week, but I couldn't see anything on the ground because Amsterdam was bathed in thick fog. I'm glad the weather cleared for you a week later.

Opening times for 2010 have not been given yet but it's about the same every year: from mid March to around the third week in May.

Keukenhof is about 9 miles from Amsterdam Airport and about double that from Amsterdam proper; that is as the crow flies.

No wonder Keukenhof, is always so crowded during the short time it's open...its so close to Amsterdam. Of course The Netherlands being so small, means that everything is somewhat close.

Ah, you took the slow train...

I had to go from Kyle of Lochalsh to London Heuston and from there to Gatwick as fast as possible (to be able to catch our plane) , but that last stage we cheated and took a taxi

Not quite, but I once persuaded my parents to come with me for a day trip to Edinburgh by train (12 miles away), which is normally a 15 minute journey from here. The train broke down and we sat on the track between stations for 2 hours before we moved off. We had to be towed by another train. To make matters worse, when we arrived in Edinburgh the door mechanism jammed and we had to wait for an engineer to let us off the train. Needless to say my parents have not been keen to try the train to Edinburgh again after that.

(Slightly off the topic of the Keukenhof...)

A good part of it on the way (it was dark coming back). I have some photos somewhere of the tulip fields which I took on another trip (the tulips had faded a bit by the 3 hour trip).

I got caught out at uni. I was heading in to college by early morning train and the one ahead of us derailed in a tunnel (Gasworks tunnel, Kings Cross) and we sat outside the tunnel for three and a half hours. It was the morning of our first end-of-year exam! I didn't get a good result in that one.

Default Re: Pictures of The Keukenhof (Dutch Tulip & Flower exhibition)

All those flowers are gorgeous, and I'm very jealous.

I haven't really looked at the garden yet to see what's come up here, although, I'm still catching up on things even though I've been home since Sunday evening. At least the lilacs are in bloom here, and I can enjoy them.
