Oh.... now that's a good one

Ah but they get the bonus when they score, just like the writers, it's the basic salary were the writers is at a certain (as in definite) disadvantage

I would like to see writer's paid as if they are the producers of the product that supports the publishing industry instead of like people who are paid for doing the laundry by the piece. I would like to see them paid as predictably and with as much (to borrow overused words from the current administration--I love the ca but they use these words too much) transparency and accountability as a normal employer might have to provide a normal employee. As in--you get paid this much on the third blue moon of each month.

Now if I can just find a way to work the word "unprecedented" into the conversation I might end up getting picked for a cabinet post--who knows?

Just click on the link in the first post by Pam, Ginny. That will take you to the Suvudu free library for the new free book downloads.

If you want to look over the Baen Free Library click here. In the left meny there are links to look on author name or book title.

Yeah, I think so. The first one was a quote out of 'The Just So Stories' and the second one was him wot writ it. Mind you, whether HE understood what he wrote .....

By the way there are numerous definitions of the transitive verb 'to Kiple' of which that was the gerund.

Most of them are VERY schoolboyish.

I'm afraid not...

you could argue that Václav Havel, the last president of Czecho-Slovakia, is more a playwright (or was when he became president) but he did write a few novels too

Didn't one of the early US presidents have a (non-fiction) book or two to his name; although I think he wrote them while he was in office.

And while not a president, John Buchan was Governor General of Canada.

Lanen, is your next <possible> trilogy continuing the adventures of Lanen, is it set in the same universe but with other characters, or is it something completely different? I'm just curious, is all.

Annie - yeah, our P'ter is (as shown) pretty seriously clued up, and as you have discovered has a fine line in puns. I was, in fact, going to ask him if he'd ever Kippled...

Have a story about that. A pal of mine worked in a tourist information office in Edinburgh, and one day in walked the stereotypical American tourist, tartan trousers, loud voice, the lot. And yes, she mentioned that she enjoyed the work of a certain writer, and asked my pal "Do you like Kipling?"

Chance of a lifetime!

She has been desperately proud ever since that she DIDN'T make the obvious rejoinder. Now me, I'd have risked my job and said it. These gifts don't come from the gods all that often!

Barack Obama wrote two books before becoming President, does that count?

Yes, Shalyn, Lanen and Co. figure in the next books - they take place about 20+ years after the end of Redeeming the Lost. Check out my new thread in the Library Cafe - 3, 2, 1, Contract.

Lanen, having an afro-American as president is novel, is 't?

But nah, we can't say he's a novelist...

Lanen: I pulled a good one on some American tourists as typically portrayed by cartoonists (loud voices and louder clothing).

I was standing outside the Round Church with St Johns College in the background so to speak. This family asked me the way to 'Johns'. Yeah, I knew they wanted the college, but they couldn't even give it its correct name: so I directed them to the nearest public toilets.

P'ter, I've been Kipl-ing since before I could read (Mom read the Just So stories to me) but don't remember that quote (not surprising. Kipling wrote a lot of stuff). I think several presidents have written non-fiction books. Obama's seem to be actually readable, which makes them novel indeed!

One of B.O's books features in the Abebooks fact sheet as it sold for over $3,000.00

Thanks, Shalyn, for wanting more Cleopatra. Did you read Cleo 7.2? I kind of wonder if anyone did--from the sales figures it looked like they moved it from one warehouse to another without ever actually offering it to customers. So, sorry, but I couldn't interest them in another one even though there was more to tell. It's very frustrating.

I never! Would I drag a fellow author away from her work and - oh - um, I guess -

Ha ha ha! It's true, it's true! <gleefully rubbing hands together> It's all part of a dastardly plot to distract Eann by introducing her to a place where folks read her books and - wait - hang on, was that the dastardly plot?

Not very dastardly, really. Not much of a plot, come to that.

I think I'm going to go away and hide for a while...

But you clearly love the word 'dastard' and methinks we might expect it to appear in the next Kolmar volume with a certain regularity

As for instigating, you're more than forgiven for that.
Now whether Eann will forgive you when she's really experienced outsanity here for a while longer... that remains to be seen

*sound of whip cracking*

OK, back behind the computer you!
