Smile Photos from our Rocky Point adventure

On a whim I took my kids on an adventure on Thur to a park we'd never explored before, Rocky Point. The park is on a small peninsula poking into the Chesapeake, with many little areas to explore: sandy beach, boat launches, and a playground. There's even a lighthouse that can be seen in the distance from the tip of the point.

Even though it was a cold and windy day, we had a lot of fun. We started with a picnic overlooking the beach, and then explored for a while and finally ended up on the playground. I took quite a lot of photos, and uploaded the best of the bunch to Flickr.

Here's a few sample photos from the set:

Just one shell in Micah's pocket. Amazing, I know.

They look like they really enjoy their outing...even though it looks a bit cold. Very nice photos...especially the one of your daughter.

Very nice pictures, Cheryl. Great quality.

I grew up in a house that had a garden that led right down to the beach, and I always had my pockets full of nice smooth stones. My mother, of course, didn't like that I carried stones in my pockets, 'cause they slowly grinded holes in my jacket.

Very nice!! I so miss being near the water. I lived most of my life within walking or a short bike ride to the ocean or a lake. Now I am in the middle of the desert. Well not exactly, but it feels like it.

The Rowan is my favourite!

"The name rowan is believed to derive from the Norse runa - "a charm". It was often planted outside houses to ward off witches. On May Day a spray of rowan leaves was hung over doors to repel evil, and wells dressed with rowan to keep witches away. The rowan, or mountain ash, is found commonly in Scotland, sometimes clinging to a rock face."

Nina, I agree, that and wanting to go to the beach except that winter's only 2 months off and I might not get too many chances, barring going North for the winter and see sunshine in Queensland.

Looks like a truly beautiful day. I'm amazed there were not more people there, cold or not. (Or did you just manage not to get them in your pictures?)

That first day, there truly was almost nobody about, and the few we saw were at a distance in other parts of the park. Only on the playground were there finally a few in the same place as us.

We've been back a second time (and I added a dozen or so new pictures to the set from that trip), on a better day, and there were a few more folks about but still not many.

I'll have more pictures to share soon, as we me made our first trip of the year to the nearby Arboretum yesterday and I took lots and lots of photos.

I finally got to take a look at all of your photos now...and IMO there are a few of them that are fantastic looking landscapes. I would love to do a painting from at least one of them[If I had the time]...especially the one with all the trees in the distance....that one is so beautiful...not to mention the beautiful ones of the kids!!! You sould consider entering a few of these in a Photography Show...they are very artistic.

Thank you to everyone for all the compliments.

Lin, if there are any that you'd like full size copies of, for possible paintings, just let me know! I'd happily enter them in contest/show, but but first I'd have to research and find one to enter.

I love the one with all the trees in the distance...the stark contrast between the trees and the light of the sky is very beautiful...and would lend itself to a very lovely pen and ink sketch. Perhaps for a someday when I'm not as busy as I am now....and if I ever find I need a bit of a change...as if...LOL!!!
