Default Hans is omniscient - so can he help me?

Having seen so often how Hans can name the book I decided to ask here about one that has been bugging me for ages.

I read it a looong time ago whilst in Germany (got it from the army library so had to hand it back ). The concept of the book was about a man who had been hurt whilst travelling in space and aliens had put him back together, but because they had never seen humans they got some things wrong. Back on earth people could teleport everywhere and when he returns he has to relearn this ability and things start to go wrong. I especially remember that near the end of the book it has stuff about hearing colours and seeing taste and other mixed up senses because of how the aliens had put him back together.

So Hans (and everyone else) the challenge set by me is name the book - then I can go look for it and add it to my keeper shelf

I wish I was...

While some of the story aspects you mention seem to come right out of Robert Silverberg's "Thorns" (1967) I can't name the book you are searching for from the top of my head. Let me think on it and do some searching.

Thank You for trying to help Hans. However I can tell you now it definitely isn't 'Thorns'. Someone else already thought it might be and I checked it out at the library and it's not the same book Mind you 'Thorns' wasn't a bad read in its' place. LOL

Odd that Hans should mention Robert Silverberg... I went back and reread your description. Parts of it sound a little like Downward to the Earth, also by Silverberg. Especially the altered perceptions thing...But in that case, it was a transformation, and took place ona planet, not in space.

So...Maybe it was something else by Silverberg, since both Hans and I thought of books by him?

I'm sorry. There is a fairly limited library here.
