Default Installation problem with vg

OK, I'm installing Freedom: First Resistance, everything seems OK . . . then, Data Execution Prevention shuts it down. Huh? I uninstall what was installed, go to DEP's options, tell it to go protect everything except for those which I select, select windows installer, add every .exe on the CD (plus the .msi), add all of those under C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield, try again. Again, it shuts down Windows Installer. After that, I went to microsoft.com & dled & ran the Windows Installer 3.1 v2 redistributable (claimed to be most up to date). Then, I ran Windows Updates. Then, I restarted.
Now, it isn't claiming to be DEP that's killing it anymore. Now, it's this: "msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This is at what appears to be the end of the install, or at least at the end of a file or somesuch. There are 3 buttons at the bottom once this window appears: Debug, Send Error Report, Don't Send. After this problem during installation, I tried to run Freedom anyways. All it gave me was a black screen. No sound, no graphics of any sort. The task manager identified it as unresponsive. I tried in compatability mode for Windows 98, then for 95. No luck.
Any ideas? I'm out, short of a complete format/reinstall. I'm going to try a complete format/reinstall at some point in the future, upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro x64; no idea when, as my computer refuses to boot off of the SATA dvd-rw, and every CD/DVD IDE drive I've installed was detected, but wouldn't even recognize disks in the drive, so I think my on-board IDE is dead. The XP Pro x64 disk requires a boot off of the CD to install. Gonna try with a PCI IDE card within a week or two; whenever I'm not feeling lazy.

I don't think anyone here knows enough to help you. You might try on the Anne McCaffrey Fans forum. And/or does the game manufacturer offer any sort of help on their website (or have their own forum where you can ask?)?
Visit one of the other sites of Cheryl's Anne McCaffrey Triad:

Thanks, I'll ask on the site you linked to.
I did ask on the Red Storm Entertainment forums, but only got one responder who had no ideas.
