Default Books from Book Town

Over the weekend, I drove myself and the grandparents over to a place called Hay on Wye, a town famous for its bookshops. We spent the day there browsing, and I managed to come away from it very happy.

First of all, I got a couple of books that I seem to be collecting on a subconscious level. SF encyclopaedias. They do have Anne McCaffrey mentioned, however.

To begin with, it seemed as though each book had about five others of the same name next to it, and for £6 I picked up these two. (I probably paid a little over the odds for some of the books I got in terms of pricing, but I don't really mind. Spending half an hour rooting through bookshelves in one shop is something I rather enjoyed.

The next book was originally £4.95, but I was put off by the rather large tear it has in the back of the Dust Jacket. So I asked the chap who ran the shop whether or not I could get a bit knocked off the price (To be honest, I felt awful doing that to begin with...but you don't get anything if you don't ask!) and he let me have it for £2.50

The best bit however, came when I went into the very last shop. I seemed to hit Jackpot with these two at £11 each. Unfortunately, the DragonSong has rather poor boards, and it's a little dirty...I'm going to have to see what I can do to clean it up a bit - if anything.

And finally, from the same shop I also managed to get these three. (I'd just like to note that Becky's 'Collector's Guide' was absolutely invaluable in my hunt for these Analogs and IF magazines. -Nodnod-

I'd agree on that point. I think I must have jumped on Sjslack's bandwagon because I found some little "Beauties" too but I have to wait until they arrive before I can "SHOW and TELL" At least you found some great bargains and expensive items, all in the one go. Well done!

Woe, what a great harvest for a day Hay on Wye! Congrats Sara, they all look very nice to me. The Future oves and especially Women of Vision were really good buys but in the end it's the fun of having a booktown to browse and some stuff to take home with in general that makes the day

Well done!

PS you have to type out Anne's entry in those Who'se Who books here!

-Wipes brow-

I've just finished re-arranging my McCaffrey bookcase and cleaning the books. The two first editions weren't in all that good shape, but with the help of a soft tablet rubber, a scalpel and a very, very, very slightly damp cloth, I managed to get them into a much better state than they were. ^_^

I'll grab the 'Who's Who' book after dinner and type up the entry for you Hans. ^^ Whenever I see Encyclopaedias like that I tend to look for Anne's name and if it's in there I tend to pick it up. ^^

Oh, Sara! I'd love to have spent the day with you!!!! I haven't been to a decent book store in years!!! It was one of my most favorite ways to spend a day in Seattle.
I'm so very glad to hear that the Guide helped you in your magazine search. Glad to hear it used as it was meant. I wish you more happy hunting days ahead!!

Wow! Nice hunting, it looks like the last image is the LP verson of Dragonsong based on its cover, to me. And The White Dragon looks smashing to me

Just what I need to see something very nice.
