Default Yay!

First, a bit of background....

My mother's been waiting for an operation on her knee for ages now, and was scheduled to go in last Thursday.

The Tuesday before, my stepdad gets terrible pains, and goes in to hospital; at the same time, mum gets an infection, and loses her voice, so that the operation had to be postponed.

I spent all Thursday with her, answering the phone and helping her shop, and I spent today as well, though her voice was getting better.

Anyway, Thursday, I had to pick up some books I had put on hold (including Killashandra) at one of the local libraries, and mum asked me to get out a couple of books for her to read that were 'light'. She didn't want anything too stressing while she was sick. So I looked, found and borrowed A Gift of Dragons. I didn't know if she'd like it.

She's loving it, and is rapt about the artwork (she paints and draws, and teaches art at home). So I'm pretty happy she's enjoying Anne, now.

Thought y'all would appreciate my rambling story.

Ciao!

Ah, a good move; she's truely beghyled

Now get her permanently hooked and you'll have a source that'll buy the new books and the ones you haven't got yet

I made a deal with my mom a while back; as soon as we finish the books we're reading now, she'll read "Dragonsong" and I'll read one of her many 'shrink' books. I'm gonna' be so bored!!!!!

I wish I could convince any of my family members to read Anne's work, especially my husband. We both read a lot of the same literature, and we have great discussions about the books we read, but I just can't get him to pick one up. On the bright side he is always on the lookout for all things Pern for me!

I'm sure you can find something by Anne to tempt him.

Who are his favourite authors?

He loved Dale Brown's books "Angels and Demons" and "The DaVinci Code"
He's also a big fan of Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Unfortunately for me he loves military fiction like Tom Clancy...{hmm, I wonder if pushing the dragons and riders off as the air force of Pern would be a good tactic here } The selection of books he does read is fairly broad from nonfiction to fiction, but I've never gotten him to try sci-fi or fantasy(except for Lord of the Rings, and that one was "his" idea!
