![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First on this list are almost every book by Patricia Wrede. The enchanted forest series (Dealing With Dragons, Searching for Dragons, Calling on Dragons, Talking to Dragons) always make me chuckle with their exaggeration of fairy tale rules. Mairelon the Magician, Magician's Ward, The Seven Towers, and The Raven Ring really make me laugh - the banter is so enjoyable, unexpected, and impertinent! I happened to find a treasure in the paperback rack at the library: Thraxas, by Martin Scott. I don't know how to describe it. It's about Thraxas, an ex-soldier, untalented magician who is a private investigator. His good friend is a twenty-year-old young woman with human, elf, and orc blood, who only recently joined civilization after spending her early years in the gladiator pits as an orcish slave. She just doesn't feel comfortable going out without an axe; she usually wears only a chainmail bikini; and she's taking philosophy classes at the local college. This book was great - there was another one too, with Thraxas in the title. What books make you laugh out loud??? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well, many Pern books that I have so far read--and the ones that haven't, no doubt--had some really funny parts.
Most memorable ones: Dragonsinger--Menolly's fire-lizards coming to the rescue during her Gather fight with that snobby girl (forget her name). ![]() Dragonseye--Morath asking if she would dance when she's older. ![]() ![]() Some other books that made laugh hard: Star Trek: The Next Generation: Q Squared--Trelane (a young Q) disrupts a class session by bringing to life Winnie the Pooh and company. Star Trek: The Next Generation: I, Q--the whole book? Star Trek: The Eugenics Wars, Vol. 1 & 2

I liked when Morath tried to eat whatshisname-Debera's father-after impression. It's kinda, well, cute...in a deranged way...yeah...
Anyway what really made me ![]() ![]() ![]() *Every time Fred and George rebelled against Umbridge, and their spectacular departure in front of hers and Filch's eyes* *Ron's quote "Ooh, can I have a look at Uranus?" *Just about anything Fred, George, or Ron says *And Much, Much, More!!! *Oh, and the Dragonsdawn quotes in my siggie* |

Oh, yeah, Morath makes me laugh too!
And a young Faranth caling Caranath a 'polka-dotted idiot'. Outside of Pern, there's some Star Trek novels that have me howling with laughter every time. Uhura's Song and How Much for Just the Planet? to name two..Any bantering between Spock and McCoy. Data pre and post emotion chip...it'd make for a long list. Tresa

The Masterharper of Pern--when Lobirn discovers that he's been teaching off of young Robinton's ballads for the past several Turns and bursts out laughing. Then his wife comes in and says that she hadn't seen him laughing as hard since Fax got caught in the wine barrel.
When I read that bit, I must have laughed nearly as hard as Lobirn there. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The HP books (especially anything said by Ron, Fred, or George), The Ship Who Won and The Ship Errant (Jody Lynn Nye is pretty funny) and today I burst into giggles while re-reading Dragonsdawn. It was during the part when they're trying to give their dragons firestone.

I loved hearing the part from MasterHaper of Pern, when Fax got stuck in the wine keg, I was lol softly for I was 'listening' to a libary copy of it, when I had a bad case of insomnia, in fact, mom found me half a sleep listening to it, for I had to return back to the libary, and the only player that could handle that format was in the living room. "Miss mom, RIP, and that player too"

I finally got hold of some Georgette Heyer and was laughing a lot during "Black Sheep"... Also a new one by Jody Lynn Nye called "View from the Imperium" which is described as P.G. Wodehouse in space... very funny and a good story too!

Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.
Two of my favourite howl-out-loud moments: Granny Weatherwax: "I don't hold with lookin' at the future, but right now the Future's lookin' at me, and I don't like its expression!" Nanny Ogg's souvenir beer-stein, that plays "Ich bin ein Ratarsed Schwein" from "The Student Horse" (Memo to self: do not read, or re-read, any Discworld book in a public place, especially in France!) |

I'm reading The Three Musketeers for the first time and I'm surprised how funny it is! I had no idea! I had read an abridged version years ago ("Great Illustrated Classics" edition) but while it gave the basic story it didn't manage to convey the humor!
(I was so annoyed when I realized the books my aunt kept giving me were not the full version... I still feel I was cheated!)

Currently, the book that's making me laugh the most is Michael A. Stackpole's "Wolf and Raven", and that's after years of owning it. ^n_n^ The main character, Wolfgang Kies, is such a smarta-- that I'd say about half of his verbal and inner dialogue is a one-line zinger, and just about every chapter begins with a few smart remarks.
From a footnote in the first chapter, Squeeze Play: 1 Oh, this is what a footnote is. Slick. For example, from the third chapter, Digital Grace: "Given that I didn't know where I was when I woke up, I figured still having my clothes on was a plus. I mean I can remember similar incidents where I thought otherwise, but I hadn't been tied up in those situations." From the fourth chapter, Numberrunner: "I felt like I was trapped in one of those math problems: Wolf, sprinting south through the alley at 40 kph, has 50 meters to the street and safety. The car, going south 100 kph, is 100 meters from the street in the same alley. How long will it be before a steel-belted massage ruins Wolf's day?"

For Christmas I received a tiny book filled with cat photos and poems "supposedly"written by the cats. The author is Francesco Marciuliano. He illustrates and writes a weekly comic strip called Sally Forth. The book title? I Could Pee on This. I get a chuckle every time I re-read it.

Multi-Facets, I think I'll have to look that one up when I get a chance.
I'm reading October Sky (originally published as Rocket Boys) by Homer Hickam. It's the book the movie was based on, and it's incredibly good. There's a lot that's serious, but there are some real LOL moments between him and his school friends, and describing his first crush, and his mother's pet squirrel...

I just reread Anne of Green Gables and it definitely needs to be in here.
All except the next-to-last chapter. Although at least the last chapter does leave you smiling through the tears...
