Ok, I'll look when I get home. Mind you, that might not be until November. *shrug* Or it might end up being in October.

JJ, I hope I'm not being rude, but you regualrly talk of going home and that it take a lot of time or about things that are in storage. Are you in the military or something? Or do you have another profession that makes you stay at other places than home?

If I'm being too nosy just ignore this and don't answer I'll understand.

No, you're not being nosy. I work as a travel nurse. I chose an area of the country I wish to see and then I find a hospital in that area that needs an extra nurse. Said hospital might need an extra nurse for a few weeks or a few months. I pick an area where my friends are and go there. If I like the hosital, or like the area, or if it works out best for me I 're-up' there, or I move on to a different hospital or a different area. I just decide where I want to work next, and when I want to be there.

This allows me to see a bit of the country and visit my friends at the same time. I may eventually travel outside the country on the same sort of set up. However, that will not be for several years yet, as I am not going to be leaving my cat while I go gallivanting about the world. She already does not like it when I pack the car. I like to think she prefers to be with me, and so bring her with me when I travel.

So when I say I am not at home, I mean I might be anywhere from a 2 1/2 hour drive to 5 hours drive to 16 hours or 24 hours drive from my home.

When I say things are in storage I mean that things might be in one of 4 or 5 boxes that are stored under the bed. Might sound easy to get to, but to get to the one box, I would have to move the mattress. Not an easy task.

When I say something is on a bookshelf, well there are five bookcases, two with two layers of books per shelf. I don't always remember what shelf something is on, so finding a specific book can be a right treat. I might remember having it or reading it, but setting hands on something I have had for several years isn't always the easiest thing to do. Not to mention I might not remember when I get home to go thru shelves to find whatever we are talking about this week.

Remembering this magazine may be a lot easier, as I have been trying to sort thru things and catalog them so that I know what I have. I hate when I forget I have a magazine and buy it again. I have three copies of People magazine for God's sake. Sometimes I get a lot of magazines to get one of something I need. Buying that lot of five magazines might be cheaper than buying one lone copy of something I need. When that happens, I have an extra copy of something. Maybe I got three People magazines in a lot. Maybe I am going insane. I just can not remember buying them. I remember buying the last one. Just not the first two.

Anyway, sorry, I get to thinking about those damn People magazines sometimes and then I'm on a tangent.

So there you go. More than you wanted to know I expect. I've been doing this about...4 years now. I think.

JJ - very interesting work you do! I've heard of this before, not sure exactly where, if it was maybe another similar post you've made or if I heard it in conversation. It's neat that you can go be with friends when you work like you do and take your cat with you. Maybe some day you will get to travel the world a bit more. Kudos for the work you do!!
Here's hoping that you do remember to look for it whenever you make it home. And good luck with the cataloging! Ugh, I know how difficult it can be, having recently done that myself. I TOTALLY understand about knowing you've got a book but just not exactly WHERE you've put it.

Sara, what a great idea about tracking devices, you might just get it started - but then what about all the old ones with out tracking??

JJ, I have a friend who used to do the same with her nursing job, it is cool

The Rowan is my favourite!

"The name rowan is believed to derive from the Norse runa - "a charm". It was often planted outside houses to ward off witches. On May Day a spray of rowan leaves was hung over doors to repel evil, and wells dressed with rowan to keep witches away. The rowan, or mountain ash, is found commonly in Scotland, sometimes clinging to a rock face."

JJ, hopefully, you are also going to take a few pics of some of the more special items in your collection, while you are cataloging it ? You have several things in your collection, that you have mentioned in the past, that would be very lovely to see...the above mentioned *Million* magazine is just one among them.

Hmmm, the devices would have to be portable and you'd have to be able to assign a book to each device and catalog the device number so that your main device would plug in the number and then the book's device would hum, buzz or light up so you could find it. It would have to be very affordable for collectors to use tho.

Maelin, although I agree with you with pictures of some of JJ's treasures I must say I published pictures of the Million Magazine not so long ago

They're in this thread

Hans, I am indeed VERY pleased and happy to have added this elusive magazine to my collection! It isn't all that rare as it does come up for sale on eBay now and then, but I just seemed to always miss it. And it was one of those things that I set my cap to find and just couldn't seem to get hold of one.
So now just the first edition of Surviors and I'll be one extremely happy collector!!!!

Am glad you got it. I totally forgot to tell you I had sent it.

And no, I am no longer at home, and do not have easy access to my things. Again.

I usually only make it home about three times a year, for a week to a month at a time. Depending. I took a job closer to home last time, so made it home more. I had to sort thru stuff to find that. So anyway, I am now a good 20 hours from home. Maybe closer to 25 hours. Damned if I know how people drive 12 hours and 3/4 of the way here. I can't do it. Poor MizzLizz can't do it either.

Anyway, glad you got it.

I do appreciate you taking the time on your short trips home to find the magazine, JJ. Thanks again for finding the magazine and sending it to me!

Good luck with this new job....at least you can take MizzLizz with you to keep you comfy and company while on these jobs.
