Thats not anywhere near me yet...but maybe if and when he gets down this way I will think about going and getting him to sign the Dragon Harper. Maybe I'll get a chance to ask how his *Mum* is doing these days.

Oh you betcha Hans...that will bring back great memories too...as that is the same place where I first meet Anne and Todd. Since that is so close to San Diego proper...I might just have to go to bookshop hunting again.
Thank you Pam for the longer list...it'll give me a chance to say hello to Todd again.

It's killing me that I live nowhere near where he's signing when I used to be so close. Well, I live sort of near Salt Lake, if you call a 7 hour drive "close." If I didn't need to go to SLC later in the spring I'd totally be going.

Typically American to even attempt to call a 7 hour drive close
Brings back fond memories of short drives in the Midwest and Texas

Raises hand and waves it. Proud "typical" American here!
If that distance wasn't considered "close", the 5 hour drive we make to see our son at University would be too much! And, we might not be considering the "whole" 3 hour drive to Albany for Albacon! It's a "fur" distance from 'here' to 'there'!

Well 3000 miles is a bit far even if it meant a visit to my sister in Seattle. Oh well maybe next time.

I wouldn't call a 7 hour drive being close "typical american" because there are lots of americans that consider two hours far. However, it is most definitely a condition of living out in one of these big square states. When you consider that the closest big mall is four hours away, which is also where the closest freeway is, three more hours to get to SLC isn't all that much. I drive four hours to get to the airport as it's $300 cheaper most of the time if I fly out of Albuquerque. Also, when you live out in the middle of nowhere generally your travels are not slowed by traffic. Traffic makes everything seem longer

I think that travel time is more or less governed by how badly you want to go. If you are planning on going somewhere that you don't really want to go...it can take forever even though it is only 20 minutes away...but on the other hand even 6000miles doesn't seem to far away....when you are so much wanting to get there!!!
We spend two and a half hours driving to San Diego often, just for a pleasant day of shopping and going to the beach...that to some is a long way...for us it's a lovely drive, and time just doesn't matter.

I'd do the 3 1/2 hr drive to Seattle if he was going to be there on the weekend, but can't do a mid week. Darned work gets in the way of everything! Rats, I was hoping he'd hit Seattle or even Spokane on a weekend so I could go!

I concider anything that is with in a days drive close. If I were to fly I would fly 4 hours to the air ports in D.C.. It would save several hunred dollars.
On the other hand Charletsvile which is an hour & 1/2 is the LONGEST drive.

Thanks for the heads up, I would have missed it otherwise (wasn't planning on checking Todd's site anytime soon).
Drat. If he was going to Long Beach on friday instead, I would have taken the day off work so I could hit Star Trek The Tour also. Oh well. |

Well we are off tomorrow early it's suppose to be a lovely day for it...and hopefully we will be able to get a couple of the new books signed, and say hello to Todd from MoM. Seems fitting that we wear our offical MoM clothes, even for this small event....one of MoM's *on the spot* reporters will get the story!!!

You got it Hans...Martin says that he will document the occasion with as many photos as he can manage...while I get the story. Lets hope that we can get a few minutes with Todd, and I will most certainly give him our regards from MoM!!

On Saturday at 2pm my husband Martin and I arrived at Mysterious Galaxy Book Store in San Diego...for Todd McCaffrey's new *Dragonharper* book reading/talk and signing. All of which was fun, interesting, funny at times and all in all very enjoyable.
There were about thirty people that showed up for the sit down event...and several more that came just to have him very gladly sign their stacks of books. Here are some of the photos that we took there....Hope you enjoy...we certainly did. : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A lovely young fan of Todd's, Jacqueline, waited patiently after everyone had recieved a signature...just for a few words and a personal photo with him. ![]() Todd very graciously not only signed all books that were brought to him...but also agreed to photos with him when asked ![]() . We left when it was all over....giving all of the *MoMers* Best Wishes and Congratulations to Anne and Todd McCaffrey on their new book *Dragonharper*. :good

Glad you all had a good time! I just wish he'd been in Seattle on a weekend rather than the middle of the week.
I'd've been there on a weekend! He's had good training from his Mum, so I wouldn't expect anything less than what he did.

I look at the events here, and I'm always jealous. I don't actually live in the middle of no where, but there is a perception from the rest of the world that this part of Maine is the middle of no where (at times I would argue that there are people who think the entire state is in the middle of no where,
). Interesting things almost never come to Maine, or at least my part of the state. Mostly, the interesting things are music related rather than book related. I enjoy the music related things, but sometimes I'd like to see something different in the area besides the things that occasionally happen at school.

Hans, you at least have more of an opportunity to explore the rest of Europe, so I envy you there. The only place out of the US that I can say I've been to is Canada, and that's only Quebec City and Montreal.

True but you must see me travelling countries as the same as an American traveling States!
I mean, I told you how big (small) my country is, so it's not surprising that I easily cross borders, right?

I guess it's that I envy you for having the opporunity to see the different cultures of Europe while to this point, I can only learn about them.
I still have so much more of the US to see though. I've only been to states on the east coast because that's where most of my family is located. The furtherest south I've gone is Virginia. Someday, I'll have to make my way to the west coast.

Sandi, Naw....I didn't see anyone that I knew...or that knew me. Since I am so visual on MoM, I think that if they would have been there they would have said *HELLO*
I do have a tendancy stick out a bit, in one of these kinds of crowds...as I am not very shy and have the habit of speaking right up when the spirit moves me...its getting my foot out of my mouth that does cause a lot of extra work.

Yes I did wear one of my MoM shirts...and Martin wore his *Offical MoM Groupie*for Cheryl. The guy behind the counter told me twice how much he liked my shirt...and the drawing of Anne, at that point even Todd had a look and said that yes he thought it was a very good drawing of his Mother. Seems everyone likes that portrait...especially with all the compliments I get, when wearing it on all McCaffrey adventures. I also mentioned *MoM* to a few of the people that were there, showing them the back of my shirt...telling them that it was a great place to find and talk with more Anne fans.
