Default Re: What is happening

Funny how "The best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray." We had the weekend all planned out. We were supposed to go to Quincy, Illinois from here in southern Missouri to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with our oldest son and his wife. Leave here Wednesday, take our time, be there Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (today), then Sunday go to Springfield, Illinois where she would go into the hospital and they would induce labor Monday and we would have our newest granddaughter.

So about the time we are finishing up on getting things loaded in the car, food laid out for the dog and cat, and getting dressed for travel, we get a call from our son.

At this point, things get a little confusing. We thought he was telling us wifey had gone into labor and the doctor wanted him to take her to Springfield anyway (this is about a 2 hour drive) and so they were on their way. Well, onset of emergency mode; finish loading car and dressing, in the car and on our way to Springfield, which for us is no less than 4 hours.

Phone updates during our journey assure us everything is fine and we don't have to hurry (yeah, right, like THAT'S going to happen) and we get there only to find out that the hospital had been the one to call him and had moved everything up to Thursday from Sunday/Monday. She WASN'T in active labor, that we could breathe again, and that my wife hadn't needed to lose her voice after all (stress does that to her).

So we spend the night in a hotel, and Thursday they start all proceedures and we welcome Shalynne Allee into the world at 11:36 PM Thanksgiving night.

From then on until we got home last night is a sort of blur of exhaustion, lack of sleep and hiway.

Pictures of Grandpa's Little Thanksgiving Turkey to follow.
