While reading I thought that the beginning was very strong and accurate down into the very small details and wording. From my point of view the Ship Avenged do have strong points regarding plot, but I missed a better communication between the characters as I was left puzzled several times. And I missed Anne's usually gifted strong and emotional romance scenes, so I was a bit disappointed at the end of the book. However, it did play up to a sequel coming.

The Rowan is my favourite!

"The name rowan is believed to derive from the Norse runa - "a charm". It was often planted outside houses to ward off witches. On May Day a spray of rowan leaves was hung over doors to repel evil, and wells dressed with rowan to keep witches away. The rowan, or mountain ash, is found commonly in Scotland, sometimes clinging to a rock face."
