Re: Domick and Menolly

Because Sebell's just kind of...there. I am not normally a fan of ships with huge age gaps but I always felt Anne kind of chickened out on Robinton and Menolly and just made up Sebell. There's...

Re: Dragon question

Well, if the dragon were hungry and it was a matter of minutes, probably they'd eat a few. I assume dragons' senses of smell are sensitive enough they'd know if the beasts had been dead too long to...

Re: What If: Jaxom Warns the Colonists

He just wouldn't come out. Even Ruth can't navigate somewhere that he has no true reference for. Change it that much, and at MOST, you might be able to use the stars and some geologic formations,...

Re: Dragon size references

And not to put too fine a point on it, with that level of disparity, a bronze mating with a green (which happens, especially with the female-ridden greens) would be...uncomfortable. Not to mention...

Re: The Future of Fan-fic

Oh, yes, that's how ANY anthology of anything works-someone has to edit it. And editors make calls on what gets in and what doesn't. Since Misty edits them herself, one assumes she has the final...

Re: The Future of Fan-fic

It's not really "fan fic" but I do wish the estate would just allow anthologies (open or invitation-only, whatever) set on Pern by other people. Set the rules it can't be Ninth Pass or no new...

Re: Time travel

Kylara's a sister of Larad of Telgar.

And there's an even more likely potential outcome of the Weyrs not coming forward--almost no one we know in the Ninth Pass is ever born. Having all the Weyrs...

Re: Writing original fic, killing of characters

Never say 'darker,' say 'more sophisticated.

I just killed a canon character in a fan fic. The reviews (all variations on a theme of NOOOOO) that immediately flooded in were absolutely catnip. ...

Re: The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis

That wasn't done for funsies. Both the book and the movie titles were changed for US release on the assumption "Philosopher" wasn't a good word to slap on the cover of what is, after all, a book...

In Anne-canon Pern, all bronze riders (R'gul included) are heterosexual, no exceptions. R'gul is also one who in DF, in F'lar's opinion, picks beauty over brains. Though was he the one who Searched...

The problem with Jora being the catalyst for "queens don't fly" is that it doesn't really make sense. The attitude in Dragonflight is not that "Ramoth's our only queen, flying like a male dragon is...

It works, but it's not as versatile as cotton or linen and it's not actually any easier to grow. Not as strong as silk, either (but IIRC the silkworms didn't survive so the Pernese don't have it.) ...

Re: Weyr Leader and Green Rider

It's not actually an expression I've really heard anyone use (deep-chested would generally mean broad across the chest.) Deeper barreled would I suppose be broader and rounder around the body.
