Re: Southern California earthquake... report please?

You know, of all the things that went through my mind (I was in LA when the earthquake happened) I was most amused, in the sort of horribly amused way I can be, at how my elder cousin reacted. She's...

Re: Heraldry

Your crest is actually quite pretty. It does make me wonder if I can dig up what the crest/crests were for different lines of my family, though I'm not certain I have those historical binders...

Re: Back--and with a fire lizard!

She's such a beautiful little firelizard!

The captions for the photos on facebook were endearing. =)

Re: Feedback for Those the dragons heed

Your characters are quite engaging - in particular Martonal, which can only be a good thing!

I am glad you don't over-use ellipses, as... I... have often found... people doing... as some sort...

Re: Are There Different Races on Pern?

Yes, by HAD I mean "Hears All Dragons." The fact Torene was overwhelmed and helped by her dragon seems to beg that being near to a large quantity of dragons makes your mental barrier weaker, and...

Re: Are There Different Races on Pern?

Mnementh rose? I think I'm misunderstanding that statement - heh!

Did Lessa have to know the dragon she was reaching for prior to reaching for them, or could other dragons give her mental...

Re: Origins of "Ista"

Heh, I go with the acronym explanation as well, in part because of the authorized status of the DLG, but also because of the precedent of acronyms in the series.

Well! I suppose that means I...

Re: Are There Different Races on Pern?

In response to Kath: Very true! Women have a certain marketability in their wombs and the connections they can build and strengthen in remaining tied with their birth family and marriage family.

Re: Are There Different Races on Pern?

Very true, and that those folk would be most likely to widen the gene pool makes sense.

Is there also a chance people located along the coastlines, near major ports, would have slightly better...

Re: Origins of "Ista"

I'm agreeing with Blue Rider 16, I think it was Igen. Ista I'm fairly sure doesn't go away in what books we have, if at the very least because of the likelihood of sending riders to Ista for...

Re: Origins of "Ista"

The acronyms of doom! Since the planet's name is an acronym, I suppose I should be glad people are at least not named in acronyms. "Why hello, I am Lord M.I.S.F.I.T. of Telgar Hold!"

"You're...

Origins of "Ista"

I've been looking back through the forums, and so if this has already been answered, I most likely am a dunce and not particularly gifted in sifting through material. However!

In the books, we...

Re: Dragons in dangerous states of mind

Once word got out, I think trust in dragonriders would take a sharp dive. Not, perhaps, consciously at first, but the thought of such a large creature being dangerous isn't far from the minds of...

Re: Dragons in dangerous states of mind

How limited is their ability going to really be to care for sick dragons? How many people still live at the Weyr? Is it simply the riders working all available jobs? I see you said, "Pluss some...

Re: Are There Different Races on Pern?

It would make sense that due to a limited gene pool, and no new genes entering, that over time there would be differences based on advantageous adaptations. Or maybe not! I'm not to hot on...

Re: Say Hello and Be Welcomed to the Library Café on MoM!

Just figured to pop in and say "'Ello!" to everyone here. Like quite a few others, I started weaning my sci-fi teeth on Anne McCaffrey, sometime before I turned ten. I've read most of her novels...

Re: Technical reasons for Ruth's abnormalities?

Only we see that dragons who don't quite break shell on their own aren't necessarily white. In Dragonsdawn we see the colonists preform autopsies on the eggs which failed to hatch, seeing some of...
