Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

I can only hope that in a year or two he won't be so resitant and at least try one book that AM has written (and read the whole thing through).
*fingers crossed*

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

Yes, I didn't like the characters or their development either. The only thing that kept me reading was the imaginary science with the terraforming of Mars. That was the most interesting parts to...

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

I wasn't sure if you were talking about the same book. I read all 3 and even I have to admit, they were tough to get through. You didn't like it at all?

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

Are you talking about "Red Mars" by Kim Stanley Robinson? He wrote a Mars triology, Red Mars Green Mars Blue Mars.

Re: Avais and the future of Pern

I'd like to see wide spread use of electricity (or did this already happen? I haven't yet read some of the last books) Glows are fun to read about but I don't think I'd want to use them.

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

Yes, Ghyle, I'm thrilled that he is reading. My oldest son wouldn't pick up a book if it hit him on the head. He seems to be resistant if I suggest a book, he loves to go to the bookstores and pick...

Re: Robinton's son Camo

I've already read Dragondrums and Dragonsinger, but it was a year or so ago, unfortunately I don't remember Camo's role in those stories. I don't know of the next one he's in, but it will be a nice...

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

Yes, granath, I actually tried with the Freedom series first, he made it half way through the first one before giving up. He reads alot of suspense type books, I guess science fiction/fantasy just...

Robinton's son Camo

I still have 3 more (I think) books to read in the series so maybe I haven't come across it yet, but what happened to Camo, Robinton's son with Silvina?
Do we ever meet him again or find out what...

Re: Favorite Dragon?

Ruth is definitely one, maybe because we get to read more about his conversations with Jaxom, he's so self assured and confident, Mnementh because he seems like a leader and forceful presence and...

Re: should I introduce my brother to Pern?

I've tried to get my son interested in reading the Pern books. He reads everything he can get his hands on but after reading the back covers of a few, proclaimed them "boring" and won't even try...

Re: Birthdays/Ages

February 23, 1967. All you who are just finding your first grey hairs, I'm jealous! I found my first back in 1995 and have had no choice but to dye . . . :(

Re: Favorite place on Pern to live

Probably Cove Hold. The beaches and peacefullness it seems like would be there. Either there or Benden Weyr.

Re: Freedom: The 'bad' guys

Aarens, Arnie, Janet Bollinger were all pains. But weren't there military types that Zainal called "brass heads" that were trying to take over the running of Botany, they cut into Chuck's...

Re: Zainals Brother

I think Lenvec had every right to be angry. Not only did Zainal grow up with all the perks of being "chosen" while he had none but with Zainal gone and Lenvec having to take his place, Zainal...

Re: If you had to live the life of one of the characters....

I'd have to pick Jaxom. That way you could live as a dragonrider with Ruth and be a Lord Holder too. He was good friends with Lessa and F'lar and Robinton. If not him then one of the original...

Re: Which book is your favourite?

I can only pick one?! I picked ATWoP. I liked that they were working together to rid Pern of thread and how it showed their learning and changing with AIVIS. But I didn't like that Master Robinton...
